Mine showed signs of wear at 1500 miles and the factory rep said it was normal piling.
I dont consider exposed threads piling..but the factory wont warrant it in my case.
Definately be cautious about velcro on your pants as it tends to grab onto this toyota fabric.
So not happy with the Toyota material and it's not like there was a better option available. Pretty lousy when you have to put seat covers on to protect what should hold up under normal use. Ive never had a problem with this in any other car.
I'd like more info on the mention that toyota might be using a heavier fabric..I could then ask the rep why they did this if their was no problem.
Also..thet lower driver seat cushion fabric only was quoted by parts at 322.00...robbery!
I bought some "cheap" black cloth seat covers on eBay for $80. They fit tight and work well. Make sure you get the ones with the slit for air bags if equipped.
It's not just the fabric that is wearing out, if you feel the foam behind the worn fabric you will feel an indentation in the foam bolster material as well. Cheap materials IMO.

I noticed some wear on my driver's seat as well. I found out it was caused by my pocket knife as I rotated out of the seat to get out. I carried it in my front left pocket and the handle rubbed the lower part of the bolster every time. The knife now resides in my right pocket even though I am a lefty - I mean left handed.

I noticed the consumer satisfaction survey contained an add-in for seat problems, excessive brake dust, noises from under the vehicle and several other things.. Ron

Has anyone had the drivers seat back wearing thin by the door? It is by the lumbat support when you get in?

There was a thread about using iron to melt/smooth the seats so the piling is gone. It made sense and it's worth a try if that's the only problem. You could go with Wet Okoles if you're wearing it thin. I find the material kind of flimsy myself and am being extra careful when I'm in it.

I have seen some wear on mine, but I have 32K on it. You must remember that this is a different type vehicle than most have had before. You are normally sliding down over the edge and a regular car you are standing up.
I have had leather and see the same thing happen on any off road type vehicle that sets higher.
I put Wet Okule on mine and have not seen them wear at all. But under no circumstance were mine worn to need the seat covers. Just a preference.
