Re: Safelite-AVOID! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!!

I had similar troube with safelite glass, however the first guy they had sent out was a complete idiot and I ended up going into the safelite glass shop. The guys at the shop knew exactly what to do.
Not sure who in the thread mentioned more wind noise, they missed something ...again with the first window install it was crap and there where more holes that the wind could pass through than swiss cheese.

Re: Safelite-AVOID! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!!

Well,

Yesterday I took the FJ to Toyota to make sure that the pieces would not fall off at speed.

While I was there, the manager of Safelite communicated with me through their customer service department.

The Toyota service tech found about 227.00 in parts that were badly done.

The Safelite manager of this location found more.

He asked if I would be willing to let him, and only him, check out the FJ further and see if he could get all the parts back on the truck correctly, order parts and put them back on when they got there.

I agreed and followed him to the shop from Toyota.

Wehn we got to the shop he started looking around and found that his techs had mangled a number of parts, lost a clip that holds the black part under the windshield to the body, mangled another part of that black piece, nevere clipped any of the pieces back in to the FJ, and BENT a few of the areas trying to push the clips in...they had mounted them on the body rather than the cowl and then tried to get them to mate.

I assisted him in removing the parts and going over the FJ.

The manager and I got into talking and he already decided that five techs would not be working full days for a bit. Sorry for them.

Anyway, he remounted the parts, ordered more clips and the antenna grommet (they mangled that too, I just never noticed it), and he personally will install them on Wednesday or Thursday.

Lessons learned:

1) take it to the shop, the senior guy will know how it works or can rapidly figure it out.
2) no matter how much I love my FJ, including being willing to sleep on the hood and never leave it's side, other people may not have the same feeling.
3) unfortunately sometimes I get overwrought (understatment) over these things.

Thanks for the support and feedback.

Oh yeah, he had me looking at the computer system to see if I could find a solution for cooling the box they put all the equipment in.

(deep sigh).

I have USAA. They do chips for free and use Safelite. So far, three chips and all done pretty nicely.

Congrats, Spidey, on finding the 5 most incompetent people within a 100-mile radius of your home!

Sorry for your trouble......Regarding the side wing pieces: I had this problem after a windshield install. In fact my drivers side cover BLEW OFF at speed( 80mph in New mexico). This was happily replaced by my dealer under warranty. Unfortunately it blew off a SECOND time on the freeway. My dealer again happily replaced the part.

Be sure you get NEW plastic hardware clips ( a couple of bucks and covered by warranty ) to reaffix the parts. The clips seem to only work one time and fail after removing the cover. Not a big deal to fix, but a potentiall hazardous problem if the covers are loose.
You guys have bigger issues if the side wings are the parts I'm thinking of! Those are held on with not only plastic clips, but a 10mm bolt/nut as well which is accessed under the interior a-pillar.

If this is the case, why was the nut not replaced?!

The must be related to the woman who was working the front gate at sun city (this is a TRUE story...)

Me: Hi, I am here to see M..S... (name withheld), I am Scott Pam.
Her: Your name?
Me: Scott Pam
Her: You're here to see?
Me: M...S...
Her: And your name?
Me: Scott Pam
Her: And you are here to see?
Me: (after a long, breath drawing pause)
(slowly) MMMMM.....SSSSS.....
Her: And your first name?
Me: (now starting to hold back intense laughter)
Scott
Her: (after typing into the computer and punching a few more keys)
Ok, here is the tag. Do you need directions?
Me: Yes, please.
Her: It's that way. (pointing down the only direction of travel one can take.)

She failed the Taco Bell cup test.

I think they are five brothers and one sister.

SoCal Cruisers Brews, grills, grinds and BEACHES

Here ya go! Camping spots are full but there's a waiting list. Think about it. Little Surfer Girl playing in the background, a big ol' bonfire raging, the water only a couple hundred feet away....paradise!

I think your referring to the A pillar covers. I was discussing the cowl covers ( pass side has the antenna). These are held on with clips only, no bolts. Really!
