Did dealer damage transmission?

Ladies and gentleman I need help from the experts. My transmission was just replaced under warranty and after I got it back, it was acting like it was with the old transmission (lurching, slipping, etc). It got worse and worse until it went into fail mode twice and making what sounded like shearing noises. I put my diagnostics tool on it and reset it. The codes were p0786 p2714 (solenoid b & d) and p0894 (trans component slipping). Took it back to dealer they said it was 1.5 quarts low so they added fluid and said it seemed to be driving ok. My question is do you think this is acceptable? Or should I demand another solution. It seems like damage had to have been done due to their not refilling the fluid properly when they replaced it. What do you all think?

I'd tell 'em to put a new transmission in again. If this one was already grinding, etc. then the damage is already done IMO.

Re: Did dealer damage transmission?

I don't think that being 1.5 quarts low (out of 7 quart capacity if I recall) would cause any issues at all. My guess is that it was empty and they gave you that song and dance to make you happy. At the very least, I'd have them drain it, looking for debris from the sounds you heard...

Re: Did dealer damage transmission?

I agree, would have to be more than 1.5 qts low. A fluid and filter change at a min would be in order. Never had to change min in the time I owned it, so not sure of the exact procedure. Or is it one of the newer cars that you just reverse flush? Anyways, you want to get any shavings out of there. Also, make sure the problem is properly documented in case it does give you additional problems later on.

Re: Did dealer damage transmission?

What you describe is what happens when people drain their a/t oil pan instead of the oil pan... So as MTb said, it was probably empty.

Re: Did dealer damage transmission?

The " no fluid" bought occurred to me as well. I thought I read new transmissions came filled already? If I asked them to drain the fluid and check for metal or whatever would they really tell the truth anyway?

after searching the issue, wasn't your's refilled about 1.5 quarts low? What were the symptoms? I also find it strange that the capacity of the pan is pretty much exactly 1.5 quarts. Does it relate somehow?
