With in the past week my starter has been acting up. At first it made a click then paused, then started. Wednesday morning it took four tries to start. The First two tries it just clicked then nothing. The third try, it turned over very slowly as if the battery had died. Then on the final try it started with no problem. Yesterday it only would make the click sound, I had to roll start it in order to get home. i'm thinking that it's a bad connection with the starter. I tried to get to it to make sure no wires had come loose but its hard to get to. I think I'm going to have to take it all apart. Any thought?
When it clicks is it fast clicks or just one clikc? if it is fast clicks check the battery, one click may be starter.

Clean your battery terminals, first (between the posts and clamps). You'd be surprised how many folks change starters when it's just corrosion causing the problem.
If those are clean and solid, and the cables are fine (no splits, corrosion, or breaks in the cables) then check the battery and work your way from there. The best way to determine whether the starter is bad is to hook up a ammeter to see how much current the starter is drawing.
But, rule of thumb: Start at the clamps and battery, then work your way from there.

Joeuser is right..
Spend a few bucks and buy a battery terminal cleaner. Either the brush type or the cutter/reamer type. Get all the crap of the posts and wire terminals and get them clamped back on nice and firm. Then check the post at the starter to make sure it is clean and well attached. Then check your grounds to the engine block.
The clicking indicates that you do not have enough current to make the starter turn over. It is usually a bad connection that causes this condition.
You might also have a bad battery.
The last thing that goes bad is the starter, unless you have filled it with mud or something.

Assuming your voltages are correct (12.7 volts at the battery with the engine off); and it spins the engine at normal starting speed when it finally does connect, it does sound (to me anyway) like a bad spot on the starter. Could just be dirty if you've been playing in deep, muddy water.

I know a couple of Florida guys had problems with their starters and had them replaced under warranty.
