Toyota of Kirkland Service

So the dealer says that they only do lube every 15K not every oil change. Knowing how critical lube is to the life of U-joints and drivelines I have always done it every oil change. They also tried to say that the "Lubricate Chassis" reference in the maintanence manual was simply lubricating the door latches on the FJ as there isn't anything else.

Every time I take it to a dealer I kick myself for buying the pre-paid maintenance plan. I do know that they wont see a dime from me when the time comes for a repair since the service received is not exactly stellar.

Is this a common thing with Toyota dealers?

Last time I took it to another dealer that did the inspection and left the clutch item unchecked. I asked and they said you must not have a clutch. I guess they didn't notice the extra pedal? Then the service manager said there isn't anything really to check. Why is it on the form then? And isn't the clutch pedal play and fluid two things that could be checked?

They also marked that my tires were at 32psi when I have aftermarket tires with 48psi. If they are just writting down what it *should* be then they aparantely don't even check it.

Re: Toyota of Kirkland Service

It isn't a problem with the dealer, at least the lube part ect, the Clutch is another story. But it is all that the Pre-paid maintaince will pay for. It is Toyota's system not the dealerships. The Pre-paid mainitance which eveyone buys covers under Normal Driving conditions all the Oil Changes to 55K, and the 15K, 30K and 45K services, once again under the Normal side of the book, not the adverse conditions side of the Maintance book...

I know it doesn't make sense to me either, but that is what they cover, so that is what the dealer did...

It is an issue which Toyota has to address and change for the FJ, especially when they know it will be driven in tougher conditions than a normal Toyota product.. Or Not offer it for the FJ at all. This way it will stop the complaints, like this one...

The part I don't get is that it says under the "Additional mainenance items for special operating conditions" Lubricate Propeller Shaft. Then has a #4 next to it which states "Applies to 4WD FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Rav4, 4WD Sequoia, 4WD Tacoma, and 4WD 4Runner". I took that to mean that for THESE 4WD vehicles it is the suggested maintenance.

Oh Well, I can crawl around lubing it up just as easy as they could reach up and do it.

No it does say that, but it isn't what the Pre-Paid maintance system covers..

It is the grey area of everything in life... I don't understand it and don't know why Toyota's Maintance program is like this, it is somthing I am talking with the Reps to see if we can't change.... But that, as we all know, is a very long process with Toyota...

It is like talking to trees, they hear you they just can't talk back, untill you evolve, and can under stand tree talk... you know, The blowing of the wind throught their leaves....
