Idler pulley and Starter

Took the fj into the dealer today thinking i had a bad alternator and a dead spot in the starter. I was told the idler pulley was bad and that i needed a new starter . What would cause the pulley to go bad ? Would water forging cause it to go bad ? Just curious as i like to know how things work . The good news is the parts will be here tommorow. When i talked to the mechanic wich is my buddys brother he kind of laughed and nodded his head no when i said i had heard it was hard to get parts for the fj . He did ask me what the hell i had been doing with the truck . LOL It's all covered under the waranty. I still love my YODA and plan to be at Big Dogs in september. Oh and they are replacing the tires under the special service campaign. Sh%t Happens

You are lucky to have a dealer who is willing to overlook the fact that you taught your FJ a swimming lesson.....

The engine parts are identical to Tacoma, so you wont have problem finding spare parts. Its the other FJ specifics parts that you will have to wait. Try replacing the Windshield....your friend wont laugh about that for sure...Good luck hope you will get your FJ back very soon...

You're right Yoda, I remember the nice little video showing the FJ capable of fording 27" of water. Thats one of the reasons I bought it. I herd small Dolphin as a side line.

They have Trail Teams out for you to go meet and drive the fj. Toyota wants us out there to promote this truck. We are the guine pigs so to speak. By having us out there wheeling these rigs toyota will find out what it is they need to improve on . Just my opinion . Plus i'm having fun being the guine pig .lol

Toyota has no clue what the FJC is capable of, given the 27'' fording depth doesn't seem to take into account the breather tubes.

And they know how to make real off roaders--they have a history of 40s, 60s, and 70s.

In fact they seem to have forgotten with the FJC.

Not exactly.

It's very capable, but since it has an IFS, more computer systems, lots of plastic body bits, and since it looks cute so that anyone can buy it--people who don't know what they're doing wheel and break it.

I think it's very nice, but at the same time I'm always worried about breaking it.
