Hi Im Carlos from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I own a 2007 FJ Cruiser. When I acelerate my FJ a rare smell came through the A/C. I have turned my FJ to the dealer 3 times and they say that everything is OK with the A/C.
you need to replace your cabin filter under your glove box

I often switch the AC off but keep the blower on for a few minutes prior to parking my rig. It seems as though this question came up on NPR's Car Cast awhile back and that is what they suggested. On the new fire engines that we have at work, they AC unit will utilize the air tanks to blow some air over the condenser for a bit after you shut the engine down. It will come on for five to ten seconds for an hour or two...it is apparently to evaporate the condensation so to help prevent those nasty smells (I'm guessing it has something to do with mold or mildew.)

If it's not mildew from condensation than it could be what I experienced earlier this summer. A mouse pulled a bunch of insulation out from somewhere in the FJ and made a nest on top of the cabin air filter. Then it had a litter of baby mice which died. I guess a fox or cat got the mother. The smell was unbelievably horrible and was getting worse by the day. The insulation material was stacked about 1 inch high over the cabin air filter. When I pulled the filter out the nest it's contents fell in to the fan. I had to pull the fan to 'clean' it all out. Not something I want to do again.
