I hate to start another cross posted thread, but I didn't see anyone else taking the lead.

Anyway, the Demello gang is looking for comments on their bumper here on TTORA so if you are in the market and have some opinion on how you'd want it to look, hop on over there and let them know.

First off, it's a DO :)

Ask him in the thread if you can have it left out. It does no harm to ask!

Yeah, I can see the front cross member getting smashed by every rock. You want the skid plate to allow you to ramp up and over an obsticle.

I also don't like the winch position. Is it me or is the winch mounted at an angle so that if you are winching straight or up that the line is going have to make a 45-90Âş bend? I think they should remove the DO and make that the winch line opening and if they want to put the DO some place, put it where the current winch line hole is.

I mentioned this in the TTORA thread and this was his reply:

"Were not sure what we will do there we have two plates one like shown and anther one that covers that whole area but looks kinda funny. Were not sure what we will do down there?"

So go in and participate, give some ideas. I can see how a skid that stretched all the way down there would look funny. His bumper sits up nice and high/tight, so a skid that continued that far would look monstrous.

So no one likes the DO? We wanted some way to let more air into the bumper. Leaving that off is not a problem.

The winch mount is up high so you get the good ground clearence. The winch opening is low so it lines up with the winch better. We could do the same hole both places to allow for winching up or down?

The bottom part we made a plate that went way down to the bottom and it looked really bulky and funny so we went with the plate mounted inside. We figured a plate hanging low hitting every rock was worse than making the plate higher so it would clear most rocks. As it is it's pretty tucked up. I don't know if it would be an issue?

Keep coming with the feed back. Anything positive?

How does your bumper react with the air bag?? Would there be any insurance issues???

With any aftermarket bumper you stand a chance of air bags going off prematurely. Ours is no accepting. I can tell you from experience that I have hit things off road with my bumper on my truck and never had an issue.

If you’re concerned about air bags, I know ARB bumpers is set up for it with there crumble zone brackets. On the other hand I know someone who had one of those and was in a couple light impact hits and the bumper eventually broke those mounts?

Looks just like the all pro.

Well, I don't actually own an FJ, so my opinion shouldn't matter much, I am just basing it off experiance. I own a 2nd gen Xterra and have a Shrockworks bumper. This bumper comes with a full front skid that goes from the bumper to the lower part of the crossmember. I have hit this skid on plently of rocks and the skid helped me up and over them. The first gen Xterra's with the ARB bumper has more of a design like the DO and people often hit that flat spot on a rock and get hung up.

I have always been one to take function over form. I don't care if it looks odd as long as it serves a purpose.

Is the winch line hole pointing at the ground at a (close to) 45Âş angle?

If it is and you are doing a flat pull the winch line would come out and bend at a 45Âş angle putting un-needed stress on the line where it meets the fairlead. If you are doing a pull up then it could require the line to bend at a 90Âş. The only way I can see this winch line position to be any good would be if you were at the top of a hill and winching someone up.

Oh, and as for the hoops, I like the drivers side where it dips before it meets the center hoop. The passanger side looks like it's sloped (from the angle of the photo).

I like it...without the DO. My vote goes for the single hoop....but something would need to be done with the skid plate underneath. I don't know...it looks kind of.....unfinished???? I don't know if that's the right word, but...

I like how high it sits. It seems to have the benefits of a tube bumper, but the good looks of a plate. Oh, and I like the more O shaped hoop like everyone else.

I took some pictures with and with out the flate on the bottom. If someone wants to post them let me know.

For the winch it lines up perfect with where the cable comes out of the winch. It's a straight shot. And after looking at it again we couldn't make it come out where the DO is because it would be way to high unless your towing up hill. We tried to keep the winch low so it had maxium strength off the frame mounts where the bumper bolts to the frame. We could have either brought the bumper down to meet it and make for less ground clearence or we could have brought the winch up and had to modify the core support.

Keep the feed back coming.

thanks for the feedback. The DO is pretty much gone for now. We might actully offer it both ways. Maybe the bumper with the DO will run 599.00 and the one with out will run 659.00..lol:)

You should be able to attach the photos right to your post.

If you look at this photo, you can see a scrap mark in my skid where it got my over a rock that would have other wise got hung up on the cross member.

**Don't laugh at the tires, this is an old pic, I have since got BFG MT's :)

Ok, the opening just looked at an odd angle. Maybe it's the photo.

Jason, What about a tube style/ pre runner bumper? Less plate, except for the skid plate.
