OT: Lawn mowers

Looking to get a riding mower since I'm tired of paying the kid next door to do it, especially with all this rain!

Got a 0.6 acre lot that is mostly flat with a fairly significant ditch in the front yard. Sod covers everything except for part of the back yard.

I'm leaning towards an entry level John Deere. With the small yard and the ability to keep it in the garage I'm thinking a small JD will last me for years to come.

Thoughts?

a john deere will last you for years, long as ya do normal maintenance and whatnot. my dad still has a riding mower he's had for like the past 15 years thats a john deere.

we priced them out between lowes, home depot, and the local john deere dealer, they pretty much are all the same price, although john deere right now has a good sale going on thru august for good financing and stuff.

we picked up a la125, which is a fairly entry level mower. hydrostatic transmission, has a hookup so you can wash the deck with water, stuff like that. works pretty slick for our yard, which is about the same size yours is.

Awesome, thanks!

My dad and grand-dad both have JD's so I pretty much knew that's what I wanted to go with. I've heard rumors that the ones they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot are not of the same quality as the ones from the dealers but I don't know the validity of those claims. I've got a dealer near by so I was planning on going there anyways.

Re: OT: Lawn mowers

Snapper is another excellent brand of rider, I bought a used one for a previous house with a big yard and it ran with no repairs beyond regular maintenance for more than 15 years.

If you can afford one, a zero-turn mower is the way to mow a large yard quickly, but a good one is expensive.

Re: OT: Lawn mowers

I have the LA105 and it's great! And I only have .25 acres but some pretty rough slopes in the back yard that made a push mower not much fun. Basically did the same thing as you and let the yard guy go and bought the JD LA105 about a month ago. Couldn't be happier. Apparently a Certified JD Assembly person comes to Lowes and Home Depot to assemble the mowers. Lowes and Home Depot employees are not allowed to assemble them. Mine came with a free JD Dump Cart but I am not sure if they are still running that special or not. Good luck!

Re: OT: Lawn mowers

this is extremely OT but have you ever wanted to run over a bunch of tennis balls with a lawnmower to see what happens....?....its fun for about 10 seconds then ....well it can hurt you and others within 100 meters of you.

Re: OT: Lawn mowers

I have a JD (x304) that I purchased 2 years ago when we purchased the new house. I have about twice the yard as you do. Runs like a champ with regular maintenance.

Some of the neighbors run Craftsman. I've had to lend out the battery charger and help them keep theirs running
