Back from Hungry Valley

As of this writing there are still many out in Gorman/Hungry Valley - some are crashed out, some gazing at a fire trading stories over beers and still others, like myself, are back home, remembering the day and smiling.

It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I don't know how many people were out there this weekend - but it was a lot. The raffle - hoowee - there was enough stuff there to fill a store...and speaking of which, Lucrum - your stuff looked great in person. I hope everything worked out with your truck.

It was 90+ degrees and some of us fair skinned folks without proper protection got some color. Some brave soul tried to conquer the boulders at the obstacle course and it didn't fare well but made for amusing armchair quarterbacking and commentary from the sidelines. The best part was seeing Highbeams at the top of the hill, winch line in hand, swinging it like a cat-toy.

Got some great pinstriping, had some butt-puckering moments here and there and left way too early. Again, it was great meeting everyone and hope to cross paths with you again soon.

Julius - sorry dunno your screen name - but holy mother of hill climbs and close calls man! You scared the begeezus outta me up there but to your credit you got over...I had every finger crossed hoping you didn't tumble.

Dave/Jodi - thanks for the offer - I'll get the stuff together and take you up on it and we'll do a trip soon (cerro gordo? or the salad bowl, salad bar, slida burro?).

Re: Back from Hungry Valley

I tell you what
Vics cat trail was a jewell
Watching julius do that turn on top of that climb puckered up the other guys in the six rigs watching
had a blast running all over the park
was fun doing a lot of trails

oh by the way, final score

6 jeeps winched by FJCs
1 FJC winched by a Jeep
and one guy who will remain anonomous, nice try Gon2surf, fj winched by fj
but holy mother of huge boulders, he was the only fj to even consider doing that pile.

I am sure that pics and stories will start piling up on both sites soon, it was a blast, we had so many FJCs coming in and out of camp all day saturday, we never got a accurate count, we figure over 30 and everyone got to wheel all they wanted.

Re: Back from Hungry Valley

Great time indeed. I just got back and showered. Considered going to bed, but thought I'd check the boards. Dog tired I am. Brought the entire family and they had fun as well. Didn't sleep a wink during the night due to the loud winds buffeting our tent, but was fun nevertheless. Met some old friends, made some new ones, and won some prizes. I will get the pictures put up as soon as I'm physically restored.

Re: Back from Hungry Valley

FJamming, thanks so much for taking me out for my first trail.... at night no less!

Sdotbailey, thanks so much for bringing up the rear on that run too. Made me feel a bit safer!

Everyone, thanks so much for all the great food and friendliness. I could go through all the names but I won't.

Special mentions to CnynRat and Jodi, Highbeams and Missy, Kokopelli and so many others for all the hospitality. You made my wife, Laura, and I feel like part of an extended family.

And we CAN'T until the next time!

Re: Back from Hungry Valley

roller8, it was great meeting you and Laura. The trail run was fun! I felt bad leaving you and Sean breathing the dust at night. It's got to be hard seeing through all that. I'm pretty new at this and pretty conservative when trailing so I was glad you were along too!

Re: Back from Hungry Valley

Ok, I'm just copy/pasting this from A4x4, so some of you have seen it..

Sorry we missed most of everybody.. Finaly got there Sat around 6-7pm after dealing with my bother inlaw's blown tranny (FORD) going up the 5/14 split.. Got all the gear and people transfered into my FJ and my other car after getting his towed back and finaly made it there.. was too crowded at base camp for our 2 vehicals, 2 large tents, quads, kids, and everything else so found another camp a bit ways off... Got to watch some interesting night wheeling by some FJ's off in the distance from our chairs in camp, ended up being a bit of a mystery what was going on but solved that in the morning.

Came by camp later Sun morning, most of the group had left but got to chat with Larry and a few others.. Did some FJ wheeling, some 4x4 quad wheeling, lots of wind and sand wheeling (I'm still picking the sand out of my teeth from all that dang wind!) and headed home late Sun, looks like I was the last to leave, last FJ I saw was Gon2surfs headed home. Sorry we missed you all but still had a great time.
