OIC, we're talking apples and oranges. I got the Hollandia 790 -- a huge CONVENTIONAL style sunroof w/a tinted glass panel that can be adjusted to full open or any position in between and has the solid panel that can block out all (or part) of the light when the sunroof is closed.

Tmaxxgod4: FWIW, the panel is just like those available in OEM sunroof installations. I don't have a very good digital cam, but I'll try to take a couple of pics in a day or so.
yea I figured, the panaramic is huge and extends too far for a solid panel like that. Im not sure I want that, Im at a cross roads because I really want a sunroof...

The sunroof itself has 5 buttons -- 2 programable, 1 to fully close w/one click, 1 hold to open and 1 hold to close. The programable buttons in my FJ are set to open the vent (rear lifted) and to fully open the sunroof.
Wait, there's a rear-lifted vent setting? Do I have that?

One thing that bugs me is that the inner solid shade doesn't open as far when the sunroof is closed as when it's open. It's just a couple inches but still it bugs me. I wonder if I could mod it.

Also (to anyone) I was thinking about getting the rear sunroof as well, but decided I could always get it later. Any issues with that and the roof rack?

And to all - did Robert answer like 20 other phone calls in the few minutes you saw him? Dude seems like the busiest man on earth. Seems like a basically solid company, but maybe a little rough around the edges. No noise, leaking or major problems with mine so far, which is all that matters to me.

You should have the vent setting, Suzzer. It's the 1st programable button (on the left). The 2nd (in the middle) programable button Robert set to 3/4 open and I reset it to full open. The 3rd button (on the right) is auto close. Call Robert if you don't have the vent setting -- I use it all the time, especially at freeway speeds when it's just too noisy to leave the sunroof open. And, yeah, Robert was answering calls constantly when I was there too. Whatever they pay him is probably not enough.

Very nice mod. The installation looks tops too.

Ha! On mine if I push the window-close arrow when the window is closed, the vent comes up. That is awesome. Scary to think of how long I could have gone without knowing I had that.

The same thing happened to me on a used Suburu I'd owned for a couple years. One day I said "hey what's this button do?", and up comes the vent.

Now, if you want, you can set one of the programmable buttons to open the vent automatically.

Re: Got a sunroof installed

That sunroof does look really good. Was the fact that they couldn't do it a foot or so deeper (from front to back) because the speakers and wiring in the roof prevented it? That's the only thing that would make it perfect - a little bigger. But I could be very happy with it the way it is. Excuse me if someone has already asked the same question.

Not sure why you'd want it farther back. Where it is, just makes sense. It's directly over the front seats and occupies the entire area between the front braces of the roof rack ahead of the crossbars. See Suzzer's pics from the 1st message of this thread for confirmation.

Re: Got a sunroof installed

Ooops! Well, looks like Airstream screwed-up on the install of my sunroof ... nothing major and they backed their installation warranty in excellent fashion. Here's the story.

Noticed a couple days ago that a 3" section of the trim ring (the vinyl edging that goes around the sunroof opening) was separating from the roof. Of course, it rained in SF that night (I can't remember the last time it rained in SF in the summer) and I had to use some duct tape in order to pull the ring back into position and to temporarily weatherproof that section of the ring. Sorry, no pics.

I called Robert at Airstream right away and he said that I needed a new "fat" trim ring. I was impressed that he said that the whole ring needed to be replaced, rather than trying to suggest just resealing the loose section. I live in SF and the shop is in Huntington Beach in SoCal, so Robert gave me a number where I could try to locate a local shop to do the work and promised to pay for the work that needed to be done.

Brought the FJ into MTS Auto in SF to replace the trim ring today. They completed the job in 1.5 hours and Airstream paid for the work (a little over $100). Very cool!

The installer at MTS said that Airstream installed the "regular" -- not the "fat" trim ring that Robert thought had been installed -- which was just a bit too small for the opening and caused the separation. The problem is now (hopefully) solved and kudos to Airstream (for backing their work) and for San Francisco MAZ for doing the work so quickly.

Now that I found a local shop, I may put a sunroof in the Prius too!
