Ooops! Well, looks like Airstream screwed-up on the install of my sunroof ... nothing major and they backed their installation warranty in excellent fashion. Here's the story.

Noticed a couple days ago that a 3" section of the trim ring (the vinyl edging that goes around the sunroof opening) was separating from the roof. Of course, it rained in SF that night (I can't remember the last time it rained in SF in the summer) and I had to use some duct tape in order to pull the ring back into position and to temporarily weatherproof that section of the ring. Sorry, no pics.

I called Robert at Airstream right away and he said that I needed a new "fat" trim ring. I was impressed that he said that the whole ring needed to be replaced, rather than trying to suggest just resealing the loose section. I live in SF and the shop is in Huntington Beach in SoCal, so Robert gave me a number where I could try to locate a local shop to do the work and promised to pay for the work that needed to be done.

Brought the FJ into MTS Auto in SF to replace the trim ring today. They completed the job in 1.5 hours and Airstream paid for the work (a little over $100). Very cool!

The installer at MTS said that Airstream installed the "regular" -- not the "fat" trim ring that Robert thought had been installed -- which was just a bit too small for the opening and caused the separation. The problem is now (hopefully) solved and kudos to Airstream (for backing their work) and for San Francisco MAZ for doing the work so quickly.

Now that I found a local shop, I may put a sunroof in the Prius too!
i was thinking of one in my 2000 saturn lw wagon. it be nice to have, good to hear how good this shop is and how well it held up..long as the right ring is in

Re: Got a sunroof installed

You guys that have had the Airstream installed sunroof for a while now, how's it holding up? I assume we'd have heard about any issues, but just checking.

It's holding up just fine. After the adjustment to the trim ring, I've had no problems whatsoever w/my sunroof and just LOVE IT!!!!!

Re: Got a sunroof installed

Mine is holding up fine after 4 months!! Had a problem opening after a heavy rain in Colorado when it was new talked to Robert who suggested some clear grease on the track and offered to send a man down to San Diego to fix the problem if that did not work. It worked and kuddos to Robert for standing behind his product!! Wish I could get Donahoe and Four wheel direct in El Cajon Ca to do the same.

Re: Got a sunroof installed

We had a Hollandia sunroof put in by the dealer(paid a little more, but covered under bumper to bumper warranty) we purchased the FJ from....absolutely love it. Really opens up the front driver/passenger area.

Matt, I don't know you but I'm not sure I like you! Because of your post you're going to 'force' me to spend about $1000!

The sunroof looks fantastic! Thanks for the pictures, I'll give Robert a call in the morning.

Re: Got a sunroof installed

I NEED a sunroof too!

Few questions. I assume they leave the existing roof material in place and just cut a hole in it. What about the panel that slides? Is that the same exact material or what they cut out? Just want to make sure the interior will match 100%.

Second question, do they have to remove the in roof shower speakers or whatever they are called?

Thanks
