Re: Anyone done Black Canyon in Barstow?

Heres the wrong route that I took. It turns out kind of fun. It's Opal Mountain Road.

Re: Anyone done Black Canyon in Barstow?

DEPENDING ON THE DATE (I'm booked the first week in Oct.), I was thinking that if the road is good enough, we/I (I don't mind paying) could rent one of those tow-able BBQ's, one of the big suckers, depending on the turn-out and the condition of the road -- will a crappy trailer make it?

The thing to do would be to get the coals started, wheel and then come back and cook steaks, dogs, burgers, brisket, whatever. Make it as much of a mixer as anything else. The only thing you need for that is a close head-count so that the food available matches the turn-out.

And I know I'm fronting you off on the Forum, AIR2AIR, but I'd love to see a demonstration of the Pull Pal and I think everybody else would too (hint). If your rig isn't done by October, you can use FJAMMINGS for the demo (hahaha).

Re: Anyone done Black Canyon in Barstow?

A trailer is going to have a hard time due to the soft surface. Unless you got a offroad trailer, I wouldn't try it. We probably could get some propane type griller and go from there. Or precook the bbq and heat it up there. It won't be the same, but at a hard day's end, it'll be just as delicious .

btw, I got a Pull-Pal too! If any recovery gear is to be used, that Pull-pal would've been perfect.

Re: Anyone done Black Canyon in Barstow?

While Google earthing this trail I found that 4 mi to the east of Opal Canyon Rd are the crash sites of the XB-70 and F-104 midair of 1966.

The full story is here.

This link should take you there in Google Earth.
