Any one know how to weld who could possibly teach me???

As the title suggests! I want to learn how to weld, but I don't have the time to take a class at COC!! I work full time and go to school full time at night. Is there any one who could possibly teach me the basics? Enough to weld up some brackets for mounting purposes (sound system, train horn, etc.)

I would be willing to pay, or buy lunch, or anything, I just want some advice. Also some advice on what unit I would need to buy for what I want to do!

Thanks if anyone answers this

For locations purposes, I am in Santa Clarita Valley, but willing drive.
-Matt

You will want to get a MIG welder. As I live in Florida its probably a bit too far to drive. If nobody answers this I would suggest calling your local welding supply store and ask them if they have any suggestions. If you buy from them they may show you MIG is very easy. Good luck!

I weld but I am not any good still learning I guess you would say witch is really just practice, practice, practice.

Get a mig welder and some scrap metal and a welding book then go to town.

Florida is a bit too far of a drive!!! MIG welder is all I need? Any link to possibly an exact model that would be good for me? I am willing to save up to get a decent one. Just keep in mind the only things I am actually welding are little brackets and such for amp racks, etc.

I was going to buy the stuff from Lowes, I don't know of any welding specifics stores near me, but maybe I am wrong...

PokerDawg, maybe we should learn together!

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to know how. Here is a site with some info. Just remember that a book a cook doesn't make.

Re: Any one know how to weld who could possibly teach me???

Guys,

Mig welding is very easy. It is almost like coloring. Buy one of the cheap units at Home Depot and start playing with it. You will pick it up in no time. Arc is a different deal. But for what you are talking about, my guess is you will pick it up in less than a half an hour. It is not brain surgery.

Re: Any one know how to weld who could possibly teach me???

It's that easy??? What is ARC welding used for? What kind of welding do you need to know to be able to do extreme fabricating? Like the SAS install?

Re: Any one know how to weld who could possibly teach me???

What material are you welding ? Stainless steel , aluminum , mild steel ?
What is the thickness of the material 16 gauge , 1/8 inch....heavier.....

It really matters , I weld stuff ......I might know what ya need.
