As far as I know it is the start of pilot rock. There are no other routes from it until you get farther up the trail. Once you climb upto the ridge line you start to get into the optional bypasses and there are a few turns off to miller canyon and saw mill road. Here is a SAT image. 138 turns into 173 if you go strait. The white line is the trail. You can see how it starts at the dam, follows the rim of the lake and becomes Pilot rock. We don't have to take this route, this is your ride
Brian, let's give this trail a try. I've never done it, so you'll have to lead up to Pilot Rock. Sounds like the distance won't be too different.
Miss R2FJ, we certainly hope you can make it!

O OK gosh you had to bump it! i was going to leave this one alone... but snow and FJ.... i guess ill try and make it... so i am in as maybe... ill know sometime today.
Will have to see if I can slip away from work. Nothing planned, but I should at least check in with them Wednesday moring.
Tires are shot, ordered new ones but won't be in until the weekend. Don't have a clue of how they would work in snow/ice. Not good is my guess.
I actually got up to Silverwood Lake (Great Korean BBQ/sushi place along the way btw) and take a look around. Not too much snow as far as I can see. I didn't get as far as Pilot Rock, but I don't think the conditions will be harsh at all. I was able to get some sledding in yesterday at the higher elevations at Wrightwood. Unless it rains/snow, this run shouldn't be a problem for most 2wds.

I'm guessin its going to be very pleasant & not too much snow except in covered/shaded places directly behind Arrowhead.
