First of all you need to but the "Big Bear Lake Back Country Trail Map" you can get it at 4wheel parts or you can also purchase it at the discovery center in Big Bear Lake....its $3.00...and it is ESSENTIAL!! or go online and its like $6.00 here....
San Gorgonio Wilderness Association Backcountry Store

What I would reccomend is if you are driving up the 18 turn off at Green Valley to your left(signs everywhere) and that will start you at the bottom of "3N16"....you can take that all the way up to "2N09" and that drops you right by the lake and discovery center. It will take 2-3 hours depending on stops and how many times you get distracted on other trails.

3N16 is like the main trail out there and we usually pretty much stick to that route and just take side trails to explore but always end up back on 3N16. DO NOT go on 3N10(John Bull Trail), it is a grade 5 trail and your stock FJ will not make it(mine didn't...lol)

The best thing about that trail map is it lists the difficulty of all the trails and also has little scenic spots listed. The route I gave you is good as well because there is a spot to air down off green valley and 2N09 turns into a paved road at the end and is a good spot to air back up.

Nice shots Dallas.

I've hosted a big map of the area. Feel free to download it. Expect it to take a while, it's BIG! SB, Lytle, Johnson Valley area map

I might be heading up to Big Bear this weekend... can you suggest any trails for a good run for a stock 4x4?
Exactly what Hellus said. You can access 3n16 by either 2n09 or Van Deusen rd. Although Van Deusen has been closed the last 2 times I have been up there when it is snowing.

Did you see that group of toyota trucks that were all modified with external roll cages? We saw a group of like 8-9 of them on the trail and then at Vons....It took us 4 hours to drive down the mountain on Sunday night, how did you do?
