Re: Adopt a trail?

The trails were great, besides Doug's constant death wish climbing hills that ask for trouble.

Re: Adopt a trail?

I'd be interested in adopting, it's a little far for me, but I'll try to make it when I can.

Bryan, I have to commend you for getting right back in the FJ and drive the rest of the way with us. 3N17 wasn't a easy trail and you drove it like a champ!

By the way, I noticed that you're not on the volunteer list. Did I overlook it?

Thanks Kevin. We're looking to find a trail that suitable for most of us and also a trail in an area that we'll all enjoy.

I'm in for anything in the Gab's or Bernardios. Shame 2N17X is taken already - it kicks ass

We might have the chance to take a pretty sweet (and challenging) trail. Tony is double checking, and I'm crossing my fingers on this one. He should chime in if it comes to fruition.

there is no designated trail for motor vehicles...trucks, SUVs, ATVs, dirt bikes to traverse Luna Mountain. it destroys the vegetation, helps to erode the mountain, and based on the steepness of the hill, simply isn't safe. one of the primary goals for a club that were to adopt this section of 3N59A would be to block, or attempt to block access to these climbs.
So who's the lucky god that gets to decide what's "legal" and what's "illegal"? Some environmentalist, I'm sure; that doesn't want any new trails established, and wants to use any excuse possible to eliminate what is currently open (can you say most of the forest service & fish & wildlife bureaucrats)?

What is wrong with "erosion"? and a little "vegetation elimination"? Nature "erodes" mountains and destroys vegetation on a continual basis, we just accelerate it a tad. With that attitude we will NEVER get any new trails.

Count me in, I'll try to adjust my attitude & learn something, but I don't think the bureaucrats & enviro-whackoes are going to make any concessions...

Re: Adopt a trail?

GTK is right. A quite amazing trails may be available. I'll pass the info on as soon as I get confirmations on availability.

Cammo, the standard order of off road etiquette is to stay on marked trails. There are issues greater then erosion. There are areas that can be quite dangerous if you try to access it in a vehicle. With Summer coming, the threat of fire is even greater. In the case of the area we're talking about, some people have actually tried to cut a path (long one too) from one area to another. Someone gets hurt and rescue crews are needed. Fire starts and the proper authorities are contacted. It's as much an issue of safety as is monetary. For us though, we are giving the opportunity to preserve an area, construct safe and enjoyable area, at the same time take pride in the difference we made.

One of the latest trails is a special one. It is currently closed. Wouldn't it be nice if we can open it up?
