Re: Feb 16, 08 - Trail run for Santiago Peak / Wildomar

The exploration of the OC trails was pretty much what was expected.

I guess we can say & will agree that Wildomar is Not really a 4x4 friendly local. Its great for quads & bikes though!

Thanks CaDavebert for putting it together!

OK here is da crew for the day! CaDavebert, Dominic, Acetechno, FJsRKool, Mikescruiser, (Taco) Gary & myself.

Headed up Ortega Hwy

The Trabuco ranger station & turn off to Wildomar

A little humor & some representing in the same pic via Ace's rig!

A bit dusty on some parts of the trail

Some very nice views!

FJsRKool gettin er done!

CaDavebert showing us the way!

Mikescruiser trail carnage! j/k

Indian Truck Trail seemed to be the better of the trails we were on today. I'm sure access to that area will soon end.

We ended the day at Lampost Pizza in Corona & washed the dust down with some cold refreshment.

There are never bad wheeling when you're out with buddies-quad trails or not!

Re: Feb 16, 08 - Trail run for Santiago Peak / Wildomar

Thanks Dave for the pics. I took my camera, but never took a single shot (sorry Oscarr!).

It was a great time. I think once all the other trails on the burned side of the mountain open back up it should be a good local place to wheel. Main Divide to Indian truck was OK, and you could kill a few off-roading hours taking them down starting at Ortega, then back tracking all the way up and back to Ortega.

Over at Wildomar, it is very scenic. You could see three different mountain areas all covered with snow, as well as the lake and valley below. It is mostly paved all the way to Wildomar, and we saw several jeep compasses out on the 'trail'. Just before the decent to Wildomar, there was a sign for a 'Rough Road'. It was a couple miles, and was pretty cool. There were also a couple big mud puddles that Dom blasted through. The 'Rough Road' basically goes down the hill into a residential area.

All in all a satisfying run, without having a 1.5 hour drive to get there (for Dom, FJsRKool, and I at least).

Thanks to all for attending. See you out there again on future runs.
