Tomorrow, LAPD Officer Randal Simmons will be layed to rest and Police Officers everywhere will be reminded of their mortality. They will shed a tear for their fallen brother and their realization that they may not come home from their shift. They will give their significant other an extra long kiss, their kid an extra hug, and watch their home disappear in the rear view mirror as they drive around the corner to put on their badge and wonder if tonight is their night.
Remember this the next time you see a cop on the street and get annoyed because you can’t drive fast or god forbid if they give you a ticket. The next time you may see that officer, he could be making the ultimate sacrifice to save your life.
Just my two cents, I have been to funerals of both Officers I personally knew and didn’t know. I have shed that tear and watched my home and family disappear in my rear view mirror.
i you don't believe me, or do, watch the following.
they are all truly heroes, hearing amazing grace on the pipes gets me all the time, this should remind people about all of our fallen heroes here and abroad, and lets never forget 9-11

I've been a police officer for 18 years. In that time, I have gone to way too many police funerals. I have gone to the hospital to check up on my partners wayyyy too many times. It's a tough job. And it's nice to see support like this from the media and the public at large.
Remember, when the bullets start flying and everyone is running away, only a select few will be running into the fight. That is your Thin Blue Line. The line between you and becoming a victim.
God Bless Officer Simmons. Rest easy, brother. We have your watch now.
One of my best friends just got into the S.W.A.T. team in Pasadena. When I heard that a SWAT guy had been killed it freaked me out. Not cool when you have worry about stuff like that all the time.
Imagine how the wife of a police officer feels, watching the news and seeing a quick blurb, "Police Officer shot/killed. News at 11." Every cops' wife suddenly goes NUTZ! Not cool. Thinking every kiss before he walks out of the door might be the last. Wondering if the next time they see their husband might be at the hospital. They go through a LOT. Not to mention time away from the family at holidays, birthdays, other special occassions. A police officer's wife IS a true hero.
FJDave 35 years of this job and my wife always says "be careful", that keeps me coming home to my hero. You are right, one officers funeral is to many. Even in my extreme rural county we don't let our guard down. Things ain't the way they used to be. God bless the families of the fallen officers. T&E
