Dale, I wish you had flagged us down!!! That was definitely us! We headed into Frazier to check out Miller Jeep but it was closed, so we caught the 5S to 138 and went up ridge route. Was a lot of fun. Wish you could have joined us. Where do you live? I will let you know of some other small runs Geo, Oscar, and I make.
How was gorman? We were thinking about going there as well, but decided on Ridge Route. And yes...it was MUCH warmer in the FJ!!!
I live down by LAX actually, when I got into Mojave Sat. night and called my buddy they already had 3" of snow, and there was no way I was getting the bike into Frazier Park in that weather. ...so I got to continue south, hence the trip back into FP on Sunday.
Gorman was just a little side trip really. I haven't had the FJ off road yet (only had it 2 weeks) and I don't know any of the 4x4 trails there, though I've spent a few days blasting around on my dirt bike. The weather was nice though, and I did cruise down a few of the fire roads just to get my tires dirty. lol I'm still looking forward to learning how to properly operate this thing on trails. It's bone stock right now, so most of the trails I see people running scare the crap out of me! Would be nice to meet up though, and pop the 4x4 cherry.
I've actually ridden ridge route on one of my bikes, and could see that as a great drive in the FJ!
You are pretty close then! PM me your number Dale and whenever we have a small local run, I will give you a call! Once you get this thing off road you will realize they are very capable stock. Do you have rear lockers and Atrac?
We will get you going quick. Also I would look into purchasing a CB radio for trail communication. Only cost you around $120 for cb (ebay), antenna (firestik), coax (firestik), and all the mounts. Check out www.walcottcb.com
If you dont have one by the time we run, remind me...I have 2 way radios.. I will give you one, that way you know whats going on at all times.
Nice pics. I read Ridge Route and was thinking you went on The Ridge Route . Looks more like Hungry Valley instead. I'm going to visit The Ridge Route a couple of months from now. I never did finish it last time I was out of there. That place has a lot of history.

yeah definitely not that. Where is that located? We took 5 North to 138lancaster. You pass the HUGE mansion with stretch limo in the front and make a right onto ridge route. Go about a mile up until it says "end maintained road" then continue on til there is a trail that is a direct Uturn on the left or straight. Make the Uturn.

It run along the 5fwy. It's the route that preceded the 5. It was the route that connected northern and southern California.

Yeah, that's the route I've ridden on my bike. It's a fun old road with a lot of history. In fact, there are still historical markers and information kiosks along the way if you take the time to stop and read them ...some cool old photos from back when it was *the* way to get up north and back.

I think even HH even did an episode on Cal Gold about this route.
