It’s going to be the 2 year anniversary since my girl and I started going out and I was planning on doing some sort of picnic-type thing. So I decided to combine that idea with the Fj (its going to be 2 months since I started going out with the Fj…. Lol)
So what are some suggestions? Which trails are the most “romantic”? Which ones have nice views? Perhaps a place to stop and enjoy the scenery, and have a little picnic?
Feel free to share your “romantic” experiences with your Fj and significant others here!
I have less then a week to plan this thing so any suggestions or ideas are appreciated!
(I live in Montebello but I’m willing to drive an hour, hour and a half…2 hours at the MOST.)

Is that Montebello, CA in SoCal? If so, too bad.
I once took a past GF on a picnic in Yosemite Valley w/champagne, strawberries, chocolate, pate and other goodies that made me points that lasted longer than the relationship did -- we're still good friends.
Down in SoCal or elsewhere, I'd try to find a winery with a nice setting, particularly around Santa Barbara, which allows picnicing on the grounds to do the same w/a couple of bottles of the local wine (Pinot), some good cheese, fresh fruit and panini to nosh on.

Re: Romance with the Fj and your Sagnificant other
If you are in Montebello, CA, there are a slew of places within 25 to 30 minutes from you (barring horrible SGV traffic!)
If you only have one day and you want to explore some seldom seen places in Southern California; go and Google the following: OHV area, Azuza Canyon, HWY 39 Crystal Lake, Lyttle Creek, Bridge to Nowhere.
If you have a little more time go check out: "Rim of The World" on a clear day. And its really close by. Just jump on the 210 heading east and look for the signs for the 18. Go explore up there on HWY 18 and 173 and you can't go wrong.
If you want an incredible weekend with absolutely breath taking views, and the feeling of being WAY out in a remote place that you'll never forget... go check out the Salton Sea and continue on to Glamis or Gordon's Well. To reach Glamis and Gordon's - continue till you catch the 78 east, and look for the signs for the Imperial Sand Dunes.
If you want to explore the dunes, you'll need to attach a whip to your ride, grab a BLM permit, and to air down your tires to around 15 to 20 psi before charging out. Go see the nice folks at Sweet Marie's. They are really helpful, and will have what you need to be out in the dunes in one stop.
Caution: Glamis and Gordon's Well are packed with tons of hardcore off road enthusiasts and families with giant RV's and toy boxes most weekends when the weather is nice. The constant roar of trophy trucks, sand rails, and quads can be heard everywhere near the popular spots. (from Halloween through Easter).
However, with a little extra effort you can get about as far out into the wilderness as you could ever want and find many romantic places all to yourself. The sand dunes are absolutely incredible in this region. This is the same place they filmed the desert scenes in Return of the Jedi.
You will have photo opportunities and memories out there that you just can't find many places in this country. Just be smart about going far out there... Along with the picnic items in the cooler, make sure you carry the full wilderness kit, along with a good medical kit, extra drinking water, firewood, and 12V air compressor to air back up once your out of the sand. Bring a couple of tow straps, a shovel, a couple of sleeping blankets, a tent, and some moving blankets to sit on the dunes with.
And well - since you are asking for a "romantic place"... I'll assume what that means... and in that case DON'T FORGET to bring some Purell and baby wipes. Ah hum...
Hope that gives you a couple of solid ideas.
Cheers!
Wilson

Re: Romance with the Fj and your Sagnificant other
check out my thread on ridge route. It is gorgeous up there. not so sure you will want to picnic because its about 30 degrees and pure white. but it is moving up there. Wish I brought a girl with me to share it with.
Re: Romance with the Fj and your Sagnificant other
Most ladies do not think "off road" when they're thinking "romance" in my humble opinion. There are some great winery get-aways in the Santa Barbara Montecito area and also in the Temecula Valley. The prices in the Temecula area are going to be more affordable. It's hard to go wrong with that scenario.
X2 on Blue Tonka's suggestion. If you want to see some stirring landscape, that's another thing.
A Big Bear/Arrowhead run can provide both with some opportunity for light 4-wheeling. You have the Rim-Of-The-World/Holcomb Valley and maybe a chateau in the Arrowhead area to end the day.

Whew! I thought you were going to ask if you could sleep in it.
The FJ is not comfortable to romp in or to sleep in. I don't know from first hand experience, of course. I've heard rumors.
Good luck.
