Re: I'm Off Work Today

Well, one castle nut destroyed, one small thread on a bolt smashed, and NOW jeshua tells me about the tool. THANKS....grrrrr.......

Anyways, all came out OK, EXCEPT:

The left rear top shock nut will NOT go on all the way. We even tried the LARGEST channel locks and a huge vise grips on the shock shaft, but the nut will not go down any more. So, while at M&G tomorrow, I'll see if Toyota can get it on any tighter. I know they must have a special tool to get them DANG things on there.....

Now, the ride is much better. A bit stiffer, but a better overall ride. ME LIKEY!!

Go to auto zone and rent the tool it will take 5 sec to separate it. Hammering on that thing is a joke and doesn't do a dang think but smash threads.

edit

THis is what you want.

Funny thing is, If we were at my place, I have THAT tool! I just didn't think to bring it with me. Come to think of it, I didn't use it when I did MY OWN struts! I just hammered the stinkin thing off then too!

And NO............................we did NOT cross thread the nut! We threaded the nut on by hand first, then with a wrench, but it would only go down so far. The top of the shaft with the flat is only peeking through the top of the nut, so a wrench cannot be placed on it and hold the darn thing!
Oh well, it will get him to the M&G tomorrow and he can have the techs tighten it up.

Re: I'm Off Work Today

Is the nut the stock nut or the new one that came with the shock? Maybe they are slightly different? Did you try switching the 2 nuts and see if it might work?
