Re: FJ Window: 0, Rock + freeway: 1

OK so I've lived with a 4 foot crack now for almost a year. Any of 3 glass co's here in Sacramento will replace for between $350-$450. I've read that dealer charges upwards of $700.00, so what gives? Any experience with the non-dealer installed windshields? Leaks, etc.?

Regards,

Re: FJ Window: 0, Rock + freeway: 1

The last crack I had (05 Rubi) I couldn't even get anyone to attempt a fix. It came up from the bottom as the normally do and was only about 2", to just above the wiper. I was headed for Taos over the holidays and just wanted someone to stop the crack until I could replace it later. Four different services and Safeco told me that if it was in the line of sight, they would not attempt a fix. Strange as they fixed a bad ding and 1 1/2" run on the same windshield last summer in Ouray. By the time we got back home in January, it had "T-ed" and covered half the windshield. Ron

Becareful with those companies. Ask if they have replaced windshields for the FJ Cruiser specifically. Certain parts get destroyed during the removal and have to be replaced. They may not know what's involved parts wise to do it right.

Thanks. I understand those parts are along the top of the windshield? Anyone know specifically what seals, etc. also need replacing during a changeout?

D'oh!! Herps.....

BTW, I've taken a rock off the same spot and haven't had a crack yet. Now that I've posted this, I just KNOW I'll go out to the FJ and see the windshield in a million pieces on the hood....
