There are some nice ones in Idyllwild. Its been a long time since I've hiked any of them though.

Re: Hiking Trails

Yeah, I have hiked to San Jacinto Peak. There is alpine terrain at the top. There are several ways to get there depending on how hard of a hike you want. It connects with the Pacific Crest Trail if you decide to keep hiking to Canada.

Re: Hiking Trails

Socal is too big... maybe you can narrow it down to a county at least?

In Thousand Oaks/Newbury Park, you can climb to one of the Peaks in the Santa Monica's. I don't remember the name, but if you want one in that area I can look it up for you. I do remember this as a tough one. Lot's of steep spots, and a good amount of elevation. Probably a 5+ hour hike.

In the OC, just go to Holy Jim, and take the trails to Santiago Peak. It's a mixture of hiking trails and fire roads to get to the top. That's a 10+ hour trek, with 4,000 feet elevation gain.

So many more out there...

Re: Hiking Trails

Eaton Canyon in Alta Dena is a fun trail. Much of it is in shade and you'll arrive at a waterfall at the end. There will be multiple stream crossings so be prepared.

Re: Hiking Trails

Mt. Baldy summit. It's a butt kicker, but you can take the chair lift part way if it's too much.
