I could be wrong, but since his wife is the one actually throwing the baby shower, she is not the one who is expecting. It is proboably a relative, friend, neighbor, or co-worker who is having the baby.

I am definitely in for a Sunday run. I have a Socal Trail book that I'll refer to tonight and list a bunch of possible options. Since I'm a noobie, I'll be listing easy trails. Don't want to get stuck in a tough situation ya know? It would be a good time for everyone who's interested to start recommending different destinations too.
