Question Texas Laws on Blacking out lights?

Anyone know or can point out where to see if/what laws are active on blacking out turn signals and headlights. I have seen mustangs with black lens covers before but don't know if its legal. I am about to install Rockblocker headlight/front turn signal film to black them out. Then I will do the rear turn signals by hand since they don't make them. Just needing to check before I do it, my inspection is up 05/07 so I might wait til after it then do it..

I guess I'm too old and cautious now to get this; why would you want to decrease the visibility of your turn signals? Don't know the legality, but common sense tells me this is a bad idea. Even worse are trucks with the brake lights blackened or blocked off with bling covers.

Come to think of it I haven't seen blackout covers around here in a long while!

If your beams are not bright enough to pass an inspection than it's not legal. If it is but has the darker lens, you're compromising safety. No mod is worth increasing your chances to an accident. This is one mod I won't be doing.

Re: Texas Laws on Blacking out lights?

If you black out your turn signals/bake lights/head lights, you fail safety inspection. I was a vehicle state inspector for a few years while attending college in TX. I was in a county where we did both emissions and safety inspections. Not all counties do emissions inspecitons (small populations), dont know if that is still true today, but all counties have safety inspections (depends on where you are registered, and you are supposed to have your vehicle inspected in the county you are registered. But, if you live (car is registered) in a non-emissions inspection county, and have your car inspected at a location where emissions inspection is required, then you are subject to both inspections. 12.50 for safety and 27 .00 for the emissions. A lot of people would get hacked when the "last time it was only twelve bucks" and they had to pay 39.50 for inspection at our loaction, which was a major metro area. But, thats only if the inspector is a butt head and does not ask them why they only have a safety sticker, and make sure they are not registered in a safety only county. Diesel vehciles are only safety inspected just fyi.

Re: Texas Laws on Blacking out lights?

I would hate the thought of someone hitting me because they could not see bright brake lights.

Re: Texas Laws on Blacking out lights?

Yep, they are not safe at all. I almost hit some one in a riced out VW that had his lights blacked while driving at night, so I didnt know he was hard on the breaks until it was almost too late...I was ticked, but should have been watching traffic in front of him as well.
