just got back from a long weekend camp out in Big Bend Ranch State Park.
Lots of jeep trails not maintained, the only draw back is the brush,it all has thorns on it. It is a really nice park, we camped 13 miles back from the visitor center at Chorro Vista, there is some decent wheeling with good hills and canyons. We didnt stay long enough to check it all out but there is always next time. They are just now opening up 55 primitive car camping sites, They are all spread out with a fire ring and a picnic table, only a few are set up at this time. The only major drawback is the thorns, 35 miles from gas, 26 miles on dirt roads,The wind can get pretty bad ,you can get water at the visitor center, but not much else.If you can stomach some west Texas pin-striping it is definetly worth a visit.
The drive from Presidio To Terlingua on Hwy 170 was beautiful. I will post some pictures If I can figure out how to. I liked it better than The National Park for wheeling.
That place is beautiful! I like to hike, so I always stay in the National Park. The window trail is absolutly breathtaking! I've never wheeled in either park, but I bet it would be a blast!
On a side note, the other day I found my pics from when I was there last, now I wanna go back...

I'm leading a group of Harleys down there at the end of the month (third trip on bikes). I call it the Tumbleweed Ride.
Yeah, Hwy 170 is awesome, and is one of the more scenic in Texas, especially at this time of year when the catus and wildflowers start blooming down there.
I didn't know that you could wheel down there, though. Does anyone have any links or information to finding out more info regarding off-road trails at Big Bend? I'd definitely consider it for a trip, for sure...

Everything I have is back home in Texas, but I got the information at the vistitor center.
While you're down there, don't forget to go see the beer drinking mayor/donkey! Give him a beer, and he'll chug it! I'm not sure which town, but it's one of the two, maybe Terlingua? Just ask anybody, and they'll point you where to go!

Yup, you are correct. He's getting pretty big, too (goat beer-belly?). I do not recommend trying to give him a beer out of a can (longnecks will work)...
We'll have a cold one together at the end of the month...

In Big Bend National Park they have primitive off road camping glen springs road,Black Gap road is the best as far as good four wheeling,Me and My Wife like the primitive camping.Black Gap is I think around eight miles long and has some fairly good rough spots, wash outs, etc( we went there the first week we had our FJ. The River Road is 50 miles long ,they have the old ore road it is a good half day or more depending on how much you get out to go see.River road and old ore are semi-maintained..but black gap is not maintained, just gotta watch for the pin-striping. We have been to Big Bend three times since labor day 06 (the day we got our FJ)we have done all the roads,Now we are starting on Big Bend Ranch it has more potential in my mind for primitive roadside camping and four wheeling you can find out more info on their web sites.here is a link to a newspaper article on bbrsp.
