I noticed there is a Gulches ORV in Laurens SC, that the FJC Trail Team as well as Clemson Off-road club will be at. Of course is the one weekend I work this month so I will have to catch up to another Trail event.
It is a NICE place...wide open camping with the trails around the campsite...no drive to wheel. You can even hit town for meals if you wanted to...only about 4 miles away to eat.

Might be a little far for some, but in western Maryland there is Green Ridge State Park. Great place for a campout, fishing/kayaking on the Potomac, hiking, and an awesome ORV trail. The Appalachian Trail runs right through it.
It's actually called Coal Creek. Used to be a copper mine I think. Some cool big wind driven turbines at the top of one trail, hence the name Windrock. They've added some nice camp facilties in the last two years and is just down the road from Oak Ridge (and Knoxville really, just about 15 mins) so plenty of lodging. Here is the link:
