hey, what did downgrading from UR to UP have to do with deleting RB and did you get rock rails (or are they not available, hey I live on this site, but things seem to change evry minute.
It seems in the majority of the initial builds Toyota in their infinite wisdom put running boards on most of their trucks that got the UR package. For whatever reason this isn't the case with the UP package. To make matters even worse I want black, which is quickly turning into a hard to get color.

In the recent allocations my dealer got both a FJ with UR and RB, and a FJ with UP (no running boards). Instead of waiting or opting to pay for the RBs then rip them off I decided to just "downgrade" to the UP package.

I'm not claiming this is the case nationwide but I have been talking to a couple dealers and to 2 distributors and this seems to be the case with most builds.

Re: Get What YOU want!

From what I have seen so far, SET ordered 2 cookie cutter builds. One with EVERYTHING you could put on it at the factory and one with Convenience, Side Bags, UP.

Stupid side airbags - I will cling to the dream that mine will arrive without them.

Both you and Pancho seem to have hot button accessories/options and as luck would have it I requested both of them.

Re: Get What YOU want!

Thanks! I'm going to try working with the dealer in town & see how it goes. If need be, I'll travel a bit to get what I want. The nearest 'large' dealer is full of tools. They just want to sell what they get & are only willing to up option - at least it's at MSRP - no bumper.

Absolutely. They can place an order to GST which then goes to Toyota in Japan for building. As long as nothing conflicts with the packages you can have it built with as much or as little as you want. Like I said earlier, the biggest issue is finding a dealer that is willing to place the order for you. Most dealers feel that whatever they get will sell so why spend the time ordering something special. It doesn't cost more to place the order so don't get tripped up there. If you are ordering something way off the wall expect to put down a deposit. Get EVERYTHING in writing and make them put a time limitation on the deposit. This should not take longer than 120 days unless there is a MAJOR problem which to my knowledge has never happened with Toyota.

Re: Get What YOU want!

Bulk e-mail may work also. Try sending an e-mail to every dealer within your area. Tell them what you want and that you won't pay over MSRP. See who calls you back and is willing to order it. Internet guys typically have a better understanding of the order process. Not to crack on the traditional sales guys but a majority of special orders go through the internet sales guys.

Re: Get What YOU want!

I've asked for the side airbags too. And I might pay for that overpriced growly exhuast if it comes to that. In fact I've requested a fairly well optioned configuration and I'm ready to pay for it. I'm just not going to pay for too much crap I don't want. Running boards are crap and they are easy to swap. And Granger you better not be right about the subwoofer and the running boards. My head will spontaneously combust if that ghettowoofer is the reason they try and stick me with the running boards. You just made that up to push more buttons didn't you? Didn't you?

Keeping in mind that I never talked to gulf states about this, no I did not make that up.

Just look at the posts on this forum. I can think of one case where someone got the UR package without running boards.

Now before you blow a gasket, another dealer I have been talking to claims that he can get the UR without the RB. I will believe it when I see it.
