Isn't wetback a descriptive term for a Mexican national who enters the US illegally by swimming across the Rio Grande?

Just thinking out loud here.... But if a Mexican National crossed the border illegally, using their new FJC, would he/she still be a "Wetback" ??

And if an American National swims across the Rio G, to sneak into Mexico, what are they called? (Crazy?? or a fugitive ?? )

(Rooster, this is your cue...)

Touchy subject. I dont think Id be a happy camper if some one was using racial epithets directed at me. People have a right to have their own opinions but on a forum that is supposed to bring together Fj fans, comments like that can lead to division. Opinions in Race, Religion, and Politics are all things most of us will never agree upon.

It is a touchy subject, but if you heard half the "epithets" Latinos have for "Gringos" (and only Gringos call Gringos, Gringos), that are spoken, Latino to Latino, in Spanish, you'd think again about how much a one-way street that "touchy-ness" is... And no, I'm a Gringo, but I also have ears... Stinkin' Gringo ears.

Read this column: It'll answer all your questions...

Cool column. I liked that very much. Good shtick and some decent answers as well.

Way more eloquent than I.

Corgi, I'm pretty sure I'm not too sensitive, that did seem like an out-of-the-blue one, if you ask me. Even though you were'nt asking me, I responded since you put that out there. I should have responded like this quote above. If you're half Mexican/American, speaking of sensitivity, what gives? I guess you explained your position. I think the whole fifty years of social progress thing there was a knee-jerk on my part, and for that I do apologize. I'm not on this forum to start some crap.

Reprimanding others. Well Stingray, I'm not one to bite my tongue when I believe someone crosses the line. I'm just one person like any other, but obviously I am approaching this subject from a different perspective. I don't think derogatory terms have a place here. Does that make me needy? Your hypothesis is reaching there. Political correctness, constitution, etc, be glib about this if you like. Imply what you may. This is my opinion. You can have yours.

Re: Retiring from Forum

I think everyone is missing a key point here. A lot of this stuff....anti-gay sentiments, anti-"wetback," anti-anything, or even poking fun at any of those....just simply doesn't belong here. It all has the potential to hurt or bother even one of the members, and really why would you want to do that? We're all here to talk about the FJ and have a bit of fun, get to know other people with the same interest, talk about how many lights we're going to put on the front of the FJ, etc. This forum is supposed to be a break from work, or some good entertainment, or whatever. But...who wants to come on here and see hateful or at least derogatory things written? I'll bet you not many. So, of course I promote free speech, right to say whatever you want, right to poop wherever you want............I just think there's tact and then there's no tact. Talk about the FJ! That's what we're here for, right?

Re: Retiring from Forum

How did this thread go from someone retiring from the forum to this never ending dribble ? Although some good points have been made..This is one of those arguments that will never end its been going on for a couple thousand years now....Meanwhile lets all just get over it and move on before we let this "Political Correctness" crap wanderoff to who knows where....... I say shoot em all and let god sort em out.... did I say that ?Oopps sorry

Re: Retiring from Forum

Well said Bostonian. I'm half asian...and the first dink or chink comment I hear i am dropping an elbow on someones skull. I don't care what your racial background is. Being half doesn't give you some free license to be ignorant. If anything you should have more of a spine and not further propagate what a regular joe racist believes or says.
