Trail ride in Birmingham...

I will be free all day on 11/26/06 (wife and the kids are going to visit the in-laws). I was thinking about running the Skyway motorway from Sylacauga to Cheaha mountain. It is a fire road that runs 40 miles on the ridge of the mountain. If I can not get any interest in that I will still want to go somewhere in Birmingham and get the FJ dirty for a few hours.

Re: Trail ride in Birmingham...

Hey missmy60.
I am sorry that I can not make it on that day (I am also going out of town). I think we should also try to have a Birmingham happy hour like they do in Atlanta. We could go to one of the bars on hwy280.
Have fun on your ride and let us know when you are going to go again.
Scott

Re: Trail ride in Birmingham...

Great! I thought I was going crazy.
The day I am free is Sunday the 26th. If you can only go on Saturday I will only be able to go on a short ride somewhere around town.
I will wait and see if we get any more FJs before we make final plans.

Re: Trail ride in Birmingham...

I was thinking about meeting on Sunday around 8:00am for breakfast on hwy 280. It will take about 45 minuets to get to the trail. The last time I went it took me about 2&1/2 hours to make it to the halfway point. so you might want to bring a lunch. The other thing I forgot to tell you about the trail is that some parts of the trail got very narrow and limbs were touching the paint on the sides and the roof. After my last trip I gave the FJ a good washing and I could not see any scratches but I wanted to tell you before we got 10 miles down a narrow trail.
I am still looking for others to join in so if you know anyone that would want to come (even if they don't drive an FJ) let them know.
PM me and I will give you my cell #
Scott

Re: Trail ride in Birmingham...

Thanks for sharing the map. Good reference points for me as I am new to this part of AL.

I wish I could roll down and join you folks, but I'll be up in Nashville this weekend taking the family to the Opryland xmas extravaganza.

Maybe another time (?)
