The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking an experienced, quality-oriented outdoor leader to supervise a 4 person intern trail crew responsible for maintaining off highway vehicle trail systems in central Florida. Working in partnership with the Ocala National Forest, the SCA trail crew will be trained in the safe use of ATV’s, small tractors and Sweco trail dozers, and chainsaws to maintain/construct trails.
The aim of the project is to protect surrounding watersheds and critical federally listed species habitat by confining impact to these particular legal routes. Typical past projects have included brushing and general maintenance, trail signing, monitoring, cross cut felling, and tread repair. In addition to the trail work, teams will also work at trailheads and related public events, providing environmental education and encouraging low-impact riding.
The SCA Trail Project Leader is responsible for coordinating with the Ocala Trail Supervisor and other staff on the design, implementation and evaluation of trail projects as well as safely supervising the crew in all aspects of their work. This is a full-time, temporary, position.
For additional Information please refer to the Ocala National Forest Website for location information.
