Uwharrie

Looks like I'll be wheeling in the Uwharrie National Forest on Thanksgiving day. My sister just got an FJ (her first 4x4) and my brother-in-law just got a Wrangler for his son (their first 4x4). So, we're going looking for some pretty mild trails. Uhwarrie seems perfect.

But - I have never been there in a stock/mild rig. The other times I've been there I've been in lifted/locked Jeeps... I have some questions for you guys who've been there before...

1. Will the trails be open on Thanksgiving day?
2. Where can I find a "good" trail map?
3. Could you provide any additonal insights and advice, e.g. avoid "Daniel and ___ but hit ___..."

Oh, and if anyone wants to join us - please do! We made a deal with the rest of the familiy (in Cary, NC): We promise to be back home by 3:30 and promise to do all the dishes after dinner

Thanks.
Mark

Re: Uwharrie

I live in Cary NC and could be open to this as well. My in-laws usually come in for Thanksgiving but I could easily make an excuse to get away for the morning. It takes ~70-90 minutes to get there and all the "fun" trails can be done before lunch, the drive back befor your deadline.

Here is a link to the Uwharrie National Forest website which has a decent map/trail guide.

I have been with a dead stock FJ (still with the paper plates on) which did all the trails, including Daniel. So, there isn't too much there that a stock FJ can't handle...

Thanks for the link and the info. That'd be great if you can join us. We're a definite for Thanksgiving. Shoot me an email at mspeece@800degrees.com as we get closer and we'll nail down the logistics.
