Off-topic... Building a CJ-8; looking for resources

Last week, I started a long-term project: a Frame-off restoration/build of a 1981 Jeep CJ-8 (a.k.a. Scrambler). It's all new, e.g. the tub, frame (restored), NOS grille, suspension, seats, hardware, etc. But, there's no drive train, electrical, fuel, dash, gauges, interior, etc.

Over the next couple of years, this thing will grow - it's like a 1:1 scale model on step 3 right now. Most of the work, I'll l do myself, e.g. yesterday, I installed the suspension... the simple stuff.

I am, however, going to need "experts" in a few areas:

- Once I put (find then put) the engine in (Chevy TBI), I'll need help with the rest of the install, the spaghetti that makes it run.
- I’m going to need a transmission (manual) and axle guy to build/rebuild some components
- I’ll need a recommendation on a body shop for paint

And that’s just the beginning

If you guys think of anyone you know and trust, I’d appreciate any recommendations. I’m not in a hurry (I have an FJ to keep me entertained!) and I’d rather put the money in an individual’s pocket than a shop’s… but for some of this, a shop may be the only ticket.

Thanks...
Mark

Manhattan, not that I would ever admit it in public, but I have a barn full of CJ-7 parts. I rebuilt a '79 from the ground up with a 304 motor, and had two 'spares' I picked up at the junk yard. I've got extra dashes, heater cores, etc. They aren't going anywhere soon, so if you need a part I may have it, let me know. Quadratec is fantastic too for new parts.

Wow... Awesome project. I have a friend Here in savannah Who has two of them. They kinda have a jeep club here in town. I was one of the original members back in 2000. We called it the SJC - Savannah Jeep Club - or "Scotty, JOHN ( thats me) , and Chuck" I haven't spoke to him in few years but I will see if I can get ahold of him for you. Since you are in the ATL you guys might be able to get together or at least share info.... No promises but I will do what I can.
