Re: Still looking for trails in and around Asheville
James I am in Hendersonville. I checked around a couple years ago for ATV trails then again last year when I got the FJ for full size trails, very little luck. The land around here is fast being sold off for homes. I have heard of Cullowhee but have not been there. I have been to Tellico several times on the ATV but not with the FJ yet.
If you want to go to Tellico you'll need at least a 3" lift, sliders, tires, and some armor. THere is a thread here somewhere "Newbie does Tellico" guy took a bone stock FJ through some of the easier trails and got high centered, but he made it out.
There is a run in Harlan KY comming up the first weekend in April. Stringmachine and I are planning on going if you would like to head up there with us. It is about 2 1/2 hours away I believe.

I read that thread-----who is the president?
His name is David Davis and he's a great guy. Check out their forum over on MUD. Lot's of good NC discussions going on all the time. http://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate-cruisers/

Have you checked out the Cullowhee trails? They're in Cullowhee
They are in Cullowhee, but they are more expedition-type and less technical. I would not recommend doing them alone either. Last club run saw a lot of slipping and sliding and getting stuck in the mud. Cullowhee is one of the last areas around with access, so those of us that know where it is are pretty protective of it. Hook up with someone who knows the area and let them show you the ropes up there. Responsible behavior is the only thing keeping those roads open.

I will disagree a little with you on the Tellico requirements. When I bought my FJ I wheeled it stock (with sliders) around Tellico and did just fine. You DO however, need sliders. If not your rockers will be pretzels. Again, the key there is to hook up with someone who knows the area well and can spot you through the rough areas. It's doable w/o the lift and with some careful line picking.
The Harlan KY ride is the April Fool's Day Toyota Crawl (http://tired-iron.mounet.com/afd08/). Never been to Harlan before, so can't give you any opinions on the wheeling.
There is another even that weekend, it's the "Save Tellico Spring Fling." It's the first weekend that Tellico will be open after the closure order for the winter was enacted last fall. There is a parade, rock crawling competitions, etc. All $$$ will be donated to pay legal fees to help keep Tellico open. There's a fight brewing over OHV use in the area, so if anyone is willing to spend the weekend for a good cause (and do some wheeling at Tellico), then please check it out too. More info here http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=646875 and here http://www.tellicocabins.com/4757/ds...o_Spring_Fling and here for more info on the closures we are fighting: http://www.sfwda.org/trails/tellico/index.html

Re: Still looking for trails in and around Asheville
Well, I just did the OME lift a couple weekends ago, After easter (going to florida) I'm going to make some sliders, a little stessed about the rockers. Still running the stock duellers (still?, I've only had the fj 4 weeks!). I'm just suprised with all the land around here that there are so few places to go. I've only lived here a year, so I figured I just hadn't found any trails yet. Bummer. I grew up on the gulf coast of florida and we used to go out a lot when i was little. Of course, my dad was a surveyor, so he new all kinds of spots. Anyone know a surveyor here, or maybe an electrical lineman? Maybe some good fireroads or powerline roads?

Oh, this is in the wrong area, but what kind of tires is everyone around here running? There's soooo much info in the tire section, but figured I'd ask here since we all run the same terrain.
