Re: Trying to spread the word...

I've nearly done that myself when I've seen FJs parked and wondered about the person driving it who must share some of the same interests - but alas, I am quasi-introverted and don't come out of my shell much except for a handful of really good friends and of course, posting on this forum...

I say go for it. Of course, you might run into jerks once in awhile, but it's not like you are trying to sell them anything - you are just saying hi and offering them a way to get involved with the FJC community and the best forum on the web. I would advise you to at least put a handwritten short "Hello!" maybe with a compliment about their FJ (flattery works!) on the biz cards if you use them. Otherwise, it might seem too much like a solicitation. My 2cents...

Well put, my friend.

I see FJ's around my town every day. At least 3 or 4 every time I go out driving around. Obviously they are not on this forum, because the closest I see respond to any threads are in Kinston, Raleigh or Jacksonville. Would it be rude if I printed the forum logo and web address and put it under peoples' windshield wipers? I say yes, but my wife says it is perfectly acceptable because her and her MINI club do it all the time to get more MINIs to join their club. Just wanted to get some opinions so I'm not spreading bad juju in the name of the FJ Forums.
I did the same thing with a 300ZX forum a decade ago, attracting quite a few new members.
If it's someone interested in their rig, they'll be happy to receive the info. If they're not interested in their rig, who needs em, right?

Whoa, minor thread hijack...

T, you did that Z thing too? SWEET! I had an 86 and a 94!

Sold the 86 after I blew the timing belt, traded the 94 towards my VW

Re: Trying to spread the word...

Thanks for the responses, guys. (and gals) I would definitely be respectful about it and I agree with TGREGG, if they are going to be asses about it and get all defensive, then I don't want to associate with them anyway. My ideal approach would be to speak to the owner in person and spread the word that way, but I always see their FJ in the parking lot of wal-mart and God only knows how long they'll be in there. I've seen a few around here with at least minimal mods, and even a few that were semi-muddy, so I know there is interest. Anyway, thanks again for the responses, I just didn't want to see a thread on here about the jackass in eastern NC that was leaving trash under peoples windshield wipers.

Re: Trying to spread the word...

Ok, I'm inspired to actually do this. I created a busness card using the templates available from Avery to print your own cards:

Avery - Business Resource Center - Download Blank Templates - Fully Customizable Business Cards - 10 cards per sheet

I didn't spend a whole lot of time, but it should do. Here it is:

Thoughts? I'm going to print a few out and carry them in my FJ once I make any final edits.

NOTE: I see that the forum automatically put a tag on my image and some of the text is hidden- here is what it says - "Hi! I saw your awesome FJ and couldn't resist saying hello. Here's an invitation to join and share fun and useful information with fellow Toyota FJ Cruiser owners. If you do check out our forum, please to send me a message to say “Hello” and let me know that you checked us out!"

Re: Trying to spread the word...

Sounds like you guys got the right idea. I just used an 8.5x11 print out with some graphics of the vehicles, bullet points, website and contact number.

Yeah, I've had the Z cars in my blood years before I could even drive.
This was the lastest, a '91 Z32 dubbed "XTAZ":

For a couple years I was the pro bono president for the Florida chapter of the ECZA (East Coast Z32 Assn). We organized events at Moroso, Sebring, Orlando, Tampa, Pinellas, Desoto Dragstrip, etc. I also authored the now defunct "Z Wall" a website featuring Z vanity plates from around the world.

We'd do most of our build days at an old school Z'ers place in Clearwater. Far as I know, he still owns one of Paul Neuman's original Baja 240Z's as well as the body of the third 240Z exported from Japan.

Good times..

I like your Idea, If you post up your card I would like to copy and try it out! I was thinking of getting a Decal made up with the forums web address and maybe my user I.D. People would have the option of getting this info right then and when they see it if they Like. Using your own rig to advertise won't tick anyone off, a flyer under the windsheild may. If you meet a fellow Fj owner it would be nice to have a card with all the info ready to give out. Just my .02

Re: Trying to spread the word...

I think it would be a good idea to put his forum in a paper giving the other fjers a change that we can be a big large club of fj's. I was afraid that I could get in trouble to put the forum on a paper and pass it to other fj's.
