I dont have rock solid proof, but I spoke to a sales-ball from Toyota of Fort Worth and he said "If you want to see the FJ, you gotta go to the auto show, son." So to the show I go.
I went out to the Dallas show last year hoping to see it, but it didnt make the trip. That sucked the life out of me for a while. Cruel fate.
I'll be the emaciated bald chap with a look of bewilderment on my face.
I just got back. It's there but roped off like a concept car so you can't get in it and play like you can most of the other cars. They do have the doors open and have it parked on fake rocks at a jaunty angle. It looks good. Enjoy.
They had one silver FJ prototype at the show and its the first car you see when you walk in the door. I wanted to sit in it so bad but it was roped off. The silver looks nice but I wanted to see blue or black. It looks very solid and tuff in person...more so than in the photo's you see. The dash looks more solid in person as well. I was afraid that the dash would look cheap and toy-like from the photo's that I've seen, but I didn't see that at all. The roof rack looks like it will add about seven inches to the height and it looks very sturdy and strong. I didn't like the rock rails they had on it. They need to look more like the Xterra's for style sake. As for visibility, I think its going to be problem for some people. The rounded glass at the back corners just camouflage's a C-Pillar so you end up with just two port holes on the sides. Here's some photo's for you to see and I think all you FJ druellers are going to love this thing once it gets here. I like it much better than the Hummer H3.
it really sucks that toyota didn't have the vehicles open for people to sit in.when the car show was at chicago, toyota had two open fj's on the floor and one on display(silver, blue, yellow).the fj is very roomy, very wide much more room than a h3 if you sat in one.
The Tarrant county show is what they call a "C" show and the Chicago show is an "A" show. Don't know if that had anything to do with it but the FJ they had here had definately had some traffic through it. At close inspection, the seats had already had some wear on the edges where a persons butt slides across it. There was cherry soda spilled on the gear box, the floorboard was dirty, the tires look like they had 4 coats of black paint on them and scuffs on the inside doors. I don't think that this FJ was up to show standards because of this and pre-production materials. This Toyota exhibit was put on by Gulf States Toyota and all they have to show is the pre-production prototype that's been who knows where.
kozway your right about who knows where these trucks have been.when i was looking at them at the chicago auto show they had mud up inside the fenders and pretty scraped up underneath.maybee these were the fj's that were at the rubicon trail or another off road event.these vehicles definitely got lots of butt traffic when they were here, very popular.everyone that sat in them and looked at the base price on display was saying "only $23,000".there's gonna be lots demand for these trucks up here hope to get mine soon.blk 4x4 auto.
There was a lot of dirt, mud and scrapes under the front end so I know its been through alot of wear. I also noticed that when high school aged guys saw the $23,000 price, their eyes lit up like they just won the lotto and telling their parents..."its only $23,000 dad". Looks like a bargain to them and it will be very appealing for that age group. I also noticed that a lot of women got excited over it as well. So if someone is concerned about getting laid in it, there's plenty of room for that, except, not on the rubber mats.
