Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

Hey Everybody,
I plan on checking a few trails this weekend on the Gila National Forest (Black Range District) and I will also check the trail through the Monticello Box. I will post some options for a trail run in October on Sunday night. I'm looking forward to getting everybody together for an all out FJ run. Adios, chris

Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

Hello Everybody,
I managed to run a loop on the Forest this weekend, but was unable to run a pass through the Monticello Box. So here is the plan for an upcoming NM FJ Cruiser outing: we could either do a one day run or break it up and do several runs across the Gila National Forest over two days. One run will be called the Monticello Box to Chloride, and the other run will be called the Kingston Mine Run. My calendar is open on the Oct 20-21 and the 27-28. So let me know what works and we can start to schedule one of these weekends for a FJ outing, originating out of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (known by the locals as T or C). Look forward to seeing NM and TX FJ Cruiser owners. Let me know and we will get this together. chris

Hey guys! I'm back in Texas now but I'm out to San Diego from the 18-27 of Oct. so if anything's going on around those dates let me know. I'll more than willing be an accomplice.

I might be able to make it on the 28th, the soccer coach quit so I am coaching my daughters team and we have games on Saturdays. I also have gotten the parts to fix my cracks in the engine bay and I don't know how long it will take. Taking it in for repair after Moab this weekend. Set the date and I will try to make it at least on Sunday.

Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

NMVoodooFJ,
The trails I was driving was dirt roads with numerous water crossings. I would rate them as good to moderate with a few boulder climbs. The last time I went through the Monticello Box we crossed the river 18 times at depths of 1 ft. to 2 1/2 ft. You definitely need 4 Wheel Drive to travel through the Monticello Box. This last weekend I went in about as far as five water crossings and turned around because it was starting to rain hard and the locals have told me not to get caught in the canyon bottom due to flash flooding. As I was coming out of the Monticello Box a jeep was stuck in the water and I pulled him out (not sure if the 4wheel was working or not). The scenery is fantastic, with lots of wildlife (Elk, Deer, rattlesnakes) and a stock 4x4 FJ Cruiser will be right at home. chris

Chris, I will be at my place near Golden/Sandia Park for at least the 19th-20th. Not sure if I can fit in a run with the other things I need to get done while I'm there, but I'll check back with this thread just in case. If not this time then another time. Thanks.

Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

1911,
I have a few PM on the dates and it is starting to look like 19-20 would work best for most people so far. However, I will wait until the Friday or Sat. before deciding on the date. Thanks for inquiring. chris
