Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

Great run today. There was a little bit too many rigs but it was a great day regardless. Sorry Jack but I have to mention that you had to get towed by a jeep. He was off camber on a sandy hill and the rear end slipped on him. He did the right thing tough and pulled out the strap. I might as well say that the jeep was just returning the favor though. Paul had to pull a different jeep out of another spot not much earlier. We had four FJC's, two 1st gen 4runners, a couple of new jeeps and a few older jeeps. I only took a few pics but here is one of the whole group:

Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

That was a fun run yesterday. I must say that a stock FJ handled the course very well. Now it's time for some OT to pay for the lift, wheels and tires I want... or is that need?

I'm happy to take a strap from anyone, I don't care what they drive.
Perfect example of why you should wheel in groups, that would have been a long day if I was by myself.

I think you should probably wheel it a few more times and then decide for yourself if it's needed. You saw how well your stock rig did. Given that, hell yeah it's needed. Did you see how cool Jack and Paul's rigs are?

Sweet Radio 505FJ, I have an older Midland that is both portable and wired in. Very versatile on the trail and great for spotting. Contrats on a great piece of gear for your FJ.

Fun in the snow

Snowed a fair amount here since about 3AM when I was up. On the way to get my mail I went out and played a bit. Did some nice cookies. Slid a bit toward a barbed wire fence on a trail, thought I might scratch "da bus". But even with the stock tire, made it fine.

Looks like fun, one of the few things I don't like about Socorro is that we don't get snow. When I lived up north I could always depend on a couple two footers a year, here I'm lucky if I see a flake or two. Miss my snow!!!!!

Re: New Mexico FJ'ers

Question regarding Bud Built skids for the NM FJers.
Did any of you install a low profile oil drain plug or one on those magnetic plugs before you installed your skids?
How hard a job was the install? did you jack the whole rig or just the the tranny?
Any places in NM that can install third party parts and that are experienced enough to not to screw anything up?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tomas

Kept the stock drain plug, the install is fairly easy. It helps if you have a second pair of hands, or a floor jack. The gas skid was a little hard, I had to use a floor jack to "push" it against the gas tank the studs on the tank are a little short and it is hard to get the nut started. I didn't lift my vehicle just left it on all fours. Let me know I would be happy to help you with the installation. I would be careful letting anyone do the install for you, I just don't trust people to do the job right.
