Im gonna be heading up to Mammoth soon, and they get some good snow, nothing like CO, but still enough to put you in a ditch if you are not careful. Im thinking that 4H is good but should I click on the atrac as well? I just dont want to ruin my trip by lauching my FJ into some ditch....
I figure this is obvious but drive like you don't have 4wd. You shouldn't need anything more than 4H and that would be once it really get snowy/slippery, unless you get stuck. If you have auto leave it in D. Be one with the FJ feel the force and when it starts to slip or drift.

I believe ATRAC is only available in 4L at very low speeds; your note seems to relate to highway driving so it's probably not applicable. Put the truck into 4H, drive at the appropriate speed for the conditions and don't make any sudden moves. All will be good.
Thanks guys, yeah the snow fall is mostly in the town of Mammoth Lakes, and I will be in 4H or H(since I have a MT6), and drive wisely. much appreciated...
With all the snow lately around Denver, I have yet to use 4x4. Granted, I have the MT6 so it is all wheel drive. I have over a foot of new snow today!
Keep in mind that 4x4 or AWD you may be able to get going, but you stop as well as pretty much everyone else. As I have seen a few idiots with 4x4s on the expressways around here, speed kills...

Ditch the factory tires (grandtrek)!! I have found that they are horrible for stopping. The antilock chatters in even the slightest slush/snow. They actually do better on ice than snow. You guys in CO are probably getting the storm that hit me yesterday.

3rd snow storm in 3 weeks. I love Colorado! I've still got my stocks on and am doing just fine. (I am not driving down the snowy road scared to death, like so many on the roads.) Be aggressive when you have to, but keep it under control, speed-wise, and you will love how the 6-speed MT handles. But I will admit, I almost can't wait for these stock tires to wear down so I have to replace them. Then I'll get something a bit more aggressive. But as I said, so far I love it regardless of the stockers.

Neither is helpful. Good tires, go slow, downshift instead of braking. Leave lots of room, and watch your mirror for some idiot coming at you sideways. I use my 4H (AT) when I'm in hardpack or constant ice. This thing is a beast in the snow, love it.
