Road Trip to Rocky Point, Mexico (Puerto Penasco)

How about a fun road trip across the border. Camping, grilling fresh shrimp, fishing, exploring. Late November or anytime in December or January.

ORC's Journey to Puerto Penasco - Off-Road.com

If camping doesn't float your shrimp boat then there are plenty of condos to rent or hotels/villas to check out.

Re: Road Trip to Rocky Point, Mexico (Puerto Penasco)

Used to go there a couple of times a year when I was living in Phoenix, late 80s to mid 90s.

We would camp out most of the time. Lots of shrimp and shark. Great times with my friends. Then towards the end one of us would be met at Gringo Pass by a helicopter. Things were getting too wild. Cost me $11k when i wiped out on a boogie board being towed by a three wheeler. Yes tequila was involved!

Hope you have a great time, watch out for the land sharks.

Re: Road Trip to Rocky Point, Mexico (Puerto Penasco)

My wife & myself love Puerto Penasco! We would be down for meetin up down there!
Takes us about 6-7 hrs from the OC So Cal but its worth the drive.
As for the camping thing...........my wife & myself prefer to camp in a beach front condo!
The closer to January the better- I prefer not to have my brains baked out in the Sonoran Sun!
I will subscribe to this thread. Maybe some of the So Cal peeps might be down for this also.

I knew some people would be interested!! Well here is a plan...maybe we all pitch in and get a kick ass beach condo where we can party like wild animals...Working on my real estate license right now for Az so I could easily find someone that works down there to get us a rental....December for me is quite busy...well atleast for my B-day and christmas...but we will see...

Show your intrest here and then we will compile it in to a post with a vote!!

Re: Road Trip to Rocky Point, Mexico (Puerto Penasco)

I'll be down there in October. We always stay at "The Big House" on Playa Encanto. The white one with the dome brick roof.
I love it down there, and usually just avoid town except to get shrimp and fish to grill up. I love the fishing down there to.

Been going there for 14 yrs know with my family in arizona, stop going because they made it more expensive and tourist trap. Kind of ruined the old fishing village that made it so nice.

Thiefs have made a bad place to stay also, we had are rental broken into 3 times last time we where there. So the next time we went done we brought are german shepard and we had no problems.

It is or was a great place away from cholla bay and city to just drive off into the desert toward the beach and fish, camp and have fun.

The first big mountain when coming into town is black mountain at the base was my moms and her mexican friends house. We were the only house for 100 hundreds of miles it was awsome. No power, no phones, no stress.Blue crap on the beach and some good fishing when the tide was in.

Just my two cents would like to go to cooper canyon with a group and explore. That is a canyon bigger than the grand canyon and deeper.
