Hoover Dam

My wife and I just got to Las Vegas for our Honeymoon...a long and mostly boring drive from Austin, TX...but we saw a lot of places we want to go explore while we're in the area. I hope someone on the forums can help me out with info on a 'trail' we saw just on the Nevada side of Hoover Dam. There is an overlook parking spot above Lake Mead and we looked over the edge and saw a dirt road that went through a tunnel. It looks like you can access this from the nearby marina area...can anyone help me out? Also, any other trails in the Las Vegas area that we should check out in our stock FJ and with limited 4x4 experience? We'll be in Vegas until Friday and then we're headed to Moab...hoping for the white rim trail and maybe some others. Then we're off to Ouray depending on the weather.

Re: Hoover Dam

smurfyfj,
That is the old dam tunnel, it is closed to auto's, you can hike it or bike it. It ends at a dead end and you return the way you came in.

Re: Hoover Dam

I just got back from Vegas this past Saturday. You have to check out the Valley of Fire State Park. It is awesome. There is no offroading in the park but the landscape is beautiful. Not sure about any trails outside though, we had a rental.
