I've loaded 'pointers' to all the trails I know of in each county (since Dirtopia organizes trails by county).
I've created a basic template to build the trail information, it's based off of other dirtopia templates. The template has places to put just about every type of info we can imagine for a trail: Lat/lon, difficulty, terrain, off road use allowed, nearest city, county, google earth KMZ, google maps link, etc.
So far I've updated all the trails I know of for Ouray, El Paso, Teller, and Park counties. Next up will be Summit and Douglas, and so on. Every trail I've updated so far has at least a Google Earth & Google Maps link that works, and rating information. Some have photos & trail info, most of them are lacking a description and driving directions.
If anyone would like to help, feel free to register at dirtopia.com & edit away. Please use the templates when adding new trails (e-mail me if you'd like a copy of a blank template). We should try to keep all the articles looking as similar as we can.
If you have photos or trail descriptions, please add those as well. My goal is to have the basics of every trail in the state in before the season starts in April. It'll be a lot of work, but well worth it in the end.
Shane, sounds great. You don't have too many pokers in the fire do you??? lol
Couple things, don't know if you have any bearing or if we have to talk to the dirtopia people... 1)Can we get a clickable map of counties, rather than just a listing? I've lived her over 95% of my life, and I don't know where Huerfano or Mineral Counties are... 2)Can we somehow add a "season" rating to trails, like year round, three season, doesn't open until August, etc? Being able to search by season/time of year would be nice. If not, is this something we could easily transplant onto the ColoradoFJs site?
I get bored easily, so I have to have a lot of pokers in the fire to keep my interest. It's a problem, therapy isn't working
Those are very good ideas. The clickable county map is fairly easy, I'll work on that next week. I've added an open/closed field in the infobox, but maybe something like 'usually open May - September' would be a good idea.
Just curious, are there many rentals in the area? Since I like to wheel and am living in a wheeless area, always looking to relocate. Was wondering if the colorado rockies are in my future?
