Going to Moab, Utah...

We are planning a family trip to Moab, Utah for spring break. Will be our first time there, we are very excited about going there, especially with our brand new FJ. Quick question though, we do plan on doing some off roading while there, but dont want to get on a trail that is too difficult, can you guys recommend some trails that are pretty easy with some lite crawls, etc. We are still pretty new to with our FJ, only had 4 days so far, hopefully will have a 3' lift/front bumper/rock sliders installed by the trip, we got the all terrain pkg and will have the BFG's. I already have some pdf maps of the area/arches/moab with trails and names.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Going to Moab, Utah...

Fins and Things is a good intro to slickrock and is fairly easy as long as it's not raining or wet. Give that one a shot. If you do okay there and you want more of the slickrock experience, try Hell's Revenge. It's rated a 4, but I've seen several stock rigs out there.....kinda depends on your offroad experience level for HR. If you've got a decent grasp of wheeling or if you have along a decent spotter you'll be fine. If there's any question about either, wait until your next trip or tag along with a group who's experienced. It's usually not hard to find a group to tag along with in Moab.

Great, thanks! What is the rating score from? (From what # to what #)
Easy > Hard?

Re: Going to Moab, Utah...

Like Sean K. said Fins and Things would be great. Last year was our first time out to Moab and we picked up this book

it has all the trails and gives alot of detail. You can find it here.

We did Top of the World, Poison Spider Mesa, Hells Gate and Fins and Things and had a blast.

Re: Going to Moab, Utah...

Not sure on the rating. Pretty sure it's a 1-4+ scale in Moab....at least for the normal trails. In Area BFE, the scale is the more updated one and a 4+ or 5 rated trail there is impassable to Jeeps that can barely make the normal 4 rated Moab trail.

You shouldn't have any problems on Fins and Things....even in a stock FJC equipped with Atrac and rear locker.

Thanks, ours will be stock except the 3' lift/rock sliders & frotn bumper, adn ours does have ATrac & rear locker. Reading the manual now on how to use it though

Re: Going to Moab, Utah...

BTW, there's a newer version of the Moab edition Well's book.

I'll see if I can dig up a link.

Supposedly the new one is so good, even owners of the old one will want to buy it.

Re: Going to Moab, Utah...

Ooops....maybe that's old news. I don't know if it's a 3rd edition. I assumed it was the 2nd.
