Re: Fun play area near Draper

That entrance is always blocked. You need to head East on 146th south until just west of the Rail Road tracks. Turn left at the tracks and go south for about 300 yards to the back entrance.

When I was there a week ago, the chain was on the ground and I just drove right over it.

Re: Fun play area near Draper

I went there today and messed around for a bit. On the other entrance watch out for the tree branches, they are quite annoying. If I remember I will take something to trim those couple of branches.

Well I went out there and only stayed for a 20 minutes or so... I ran into a father and his kids getting ready to ride some bikes around. I talked with him a little about the area and found out a few things.

1- It is private property
2- The owner's name is Dave Lions, He lives in Bluffdale.
3- He has "no issues" with people playing around on that piece of land, but he does require that anyone who wishes to use it must sign a release form. Otherwise you will be considered tresspassing on his land.

Are u sure? Where did you try to get in? Right next to the railroad tracks or down the street to the original entrance. That entrance has always been locked up. So where did you try to get in?
So, let's find another way around the BLOCKED entrance to enter private property....

I felt I should also post these PM's concerning why this thread was shut down. I normally would not post private correspondence from a member, but I feel it will help other's learn why this type of activity is bad and we don't allow it on this forum.

In response to your thread closure, I'm not quite sure what to say.

My information was meant as useful. The owner has no issues with people using the land as long as you sign the release form. He is happy to let people use it as long as you follow the proper rules. We are trying to get a hold of the owner so that we can enjoy the area the right way.

The area is not closed, that is a misunderstanding amongst certain members that use a different entrance. The chain on the ground at the main entrance has been like that since members on this forum have started to go there. Some people have used the back entrance believing that this was the only way in. It has been an established road, but overhanging branches line the road. I never heard of it until recently. Some people have continued to go, because it is open and not closed. Other people are out there every weekend doing motocross and such. We all try to follow the code of the tread lightly and no tresspassing... Some of us just better than others.
Again this is why we are tracking down the owner, to do things right.

Does this change your thoughts or actions of closing the thread? maybe, maybe not..... but hopefully this clears up some questions.
I don’t have a problem with you per say, I read through the entire thread before making my decision and I understood everything that was being posted. Someone stated that the owner has no problem off-roading on his land if you have a release and you keep it low key. By posting the location on the WORLD WIDE WEB is not “low key”, and I don’t think this is what the owner had in mind.

We are getting a lot of new members on this forum that have never owner a 4x4. We this being said, they think it’s ok to go anywhere there is open land and they see tracks of others. They don’t stop and think who owns this property, they just proceed to go have “fun”, why not there not hurting anybody right?..Wrong. When people do this they hurt everyone in the off-road community, by not respecting land owners rights. This is what gives us (the Off-Road Community) a bad name, this also gives the land grabbers along with other groups the ammunition they need to help close down BLM and US Forest roads to the public.

This forum is based on the FJ Cruiser along with other areas of interest along those lines such as off-roading. Tread lightly is not a quote in a signature, it’s a practice and way of life. We as Moderators on this forum have the responsibility to over see everything that goes on in this website. To insure correct and knowledgeable information is passed on to others that seek it. A lot of effort goes into keeping the forum running realitivly smooth, but we frown upon promoting off-roading on private property. If we did not step in and set the record straight, then others would assume that “there is nothing wrong with it” We have a responsibility to not only our members but to the off-roading sport to “Police” our own and to set good examples.

Now with all that being said, here is what I suggest, if you want to continue posting about this area. I suggest that you take the lead since you have already have the contact information on the owner, talk with him about getting a release forum that can be PM’d or e-mailed back and forth. Setup a day for an off-roading event, have all the members that post up wanting to go, send them the release then sending it back to you, then you send them to the owner. This way you and the owner has the list of the members that are supposed to be there, then if anyone that just shows up, you can help by either turning them away, or by giving them a release forum to sign.

You may even work a deal out with the owner to be his eye’s and ears for him on the property. If you see other vehicles that just go riding around, take down their tags, and give them to the owner. Another words you could act like the manager of the property when your there, this would help establish a good communication with others and the owner that you “Practice” being a professional responsible off-roader.

This will go along way with others and new members that can actually see someone that takes the initive to practice responsible safe off-roading. I nor other MOD’s, Admin’s or other professional off-roading members would not have a problem with a thread then. We do have a problem of allowing anyone to post up saying it’s ok, everyone else is doing it type of mentality. I hope this helps, you can again contact me or other Mod’s or Admins concerning this or future questions.

Mike

P.S. Feel free to pass my response to other members that inquire to as why the thread was shut down.
