SUWA Protest 3/5/08

I just received this e-mail from Motoutah.com. SUWA is always trying to shut down access to land and this is a great chance to stick it to them

PUBLIC PROTEST WEDNESDAY MARCH 5TH @ STATE CAPITOL

Read more at: Protest Discussion
Read Wyss Letter at: Wyss Letter

Dear USA-ALL Action Alert Subscriber,

This Wednesday at March 5th at 12:15 PM in the Capitol Building rotunda there will be a news conference to discuss alleged illegal activities committed by SUWA officers and SUWA’s wilderness proposal for Utah. In conjunction with the news conference there will be a public protest. State legislators have asked me specifically to invite all of you and encourage your attendance. Please come if you can. This is your chance to protest SUWA and their harmful attempts to lock up public land in Utah. If you missed our last rally please make every effort to be to this event. The entire event should be over by about 1:00 PM. Members of the public and especially members of USA-ALL are encouraged to attend. Also on Wednesday a full page ad will be placed in the SL Tribune and the Deseret News regarding this event and the issues discussed.

We have attached a letter sent and signed by almost every member of the Utah House of Representatives asking for answers to tough questions directed to SUWA. This letter gives you an idea about some of what will be discussed in Wednesday’s news conference and public protest.

Also check out our blog page at www.usaall.blogspot.com for the latest on legislative activity in Utah. There are only 2 more days left in the session. So far USA-ALL has got every bill and resolution that we wanted passed except for one, and we’re still working on it. And yes, come later this year you will be able to register your ATV for on street use! We passed SB 181!

Re: SUWA Protest 3/5/08

Scott,

It was not that well attended. The group USA ALL is a pretty cool group of people fighting for access but they fall into the same trap that all the groups are in. The groups that want to protect access are all so seperate from eachother and disorganized. This group is trying to pull in 4x4, ATV, dirtbike, campers, hikers, etc. all under one umbrella. The concept is great but they only raise about $200,000 a year compared to SUWA's 2.7 million. With the large investment in outdoor recreation by people I would think that we would all be willing to kick down some money to protect our access. Hopefully some group will step forward in Utah and really carry the torch. Anyway I could go on about this topic all day so I'll get off my soap box now. If anyone here in Utah ever hears about any of these types of protests or pro land access fund raisers please spread the news.

Craig
