This weekend is not availble to me it is the second to last weekend for skiing. I can do it on the 19th. I need to clean out the garage but when it is done we should be able to have at least 3 FJs in there and working on them we could ge 5 but would be a bit tight to work on. Besides the Sheet of HDPE what other parts would we need any bolts I probably have but if we need any metal we would need to get that before hand. Kasey would you be able to PM CaptRik and see what he used as far as bolts and how many and what size and if he used any metal for cross bracing or to start the shhet out up front? I thinkif we prepare right we could knock a bunchout pretty fast once we got rolling.

PS I was watchinga 4x4 show thie weekend and it was really interesting thatalmost every rock buggy had this stuff on the bottom of it too.
No problem man, I'll send Rick a pm right now and see if he can help us out. Even without a template I think we can get by, but that would help out. As far as starting the sheet out in the front I don't think anyone has tried that yet. From looking at the pics in Rick's thread he started out at the cross member. Personally I was going to do the same until we got the Expedition One front bumper and then try to fab up something to that. Thoughts??

Re: Utah HD Polyethyline Skids get together

Hey mr tibbs, where did you find this stuff for $150 a sheet? I found it for $222.00 a sheet in black. A couple friends of mine and I are doing my FJ, my bros 07 Tacoma and a 01 Tacoma on Sat morning. Plus the scuba mods on all of them. I'll let you know how everything turns out. I personally want it installed before Spring Fling. My friend is thinking about making these and selling them. We will have to see after this weekend.

Re: Utah HD Polyethyline Skids get together

Good deal man! Make sure and keep track of bolts you use for us and if possible we would love to have a template! The place I called was Laird's Plastics and the stuff I was going to use was "natural" or white. I did not ask about black anywhere because I was aware that it costs more.

If you do end up doing this over the weekend please keep some notes and let us know of any problems you have. Any pointers you can give us would be of great help. I really wish I was available this weekend to come over and help, but this weekend is pretty full for me.

Re: Utah HD Polyethyline Skids get together

Kasey and Just4fun here is another thread on it it isa 4rnr but Kasey it has an aftermarket front bumper and a tie in to it. I was thinking of taking it up to the front cross member below the bumper. We would have to put in some vent holes (see above the hdpe on the 4rnr). The one thing I have not looked at is if there is anything onlong the sides up front to attach it too.
HDPE skids

HDPE skids
Thanks for that link! It's a lot more techinacal than Rick's thread, but they both have their points. As far as attaching the HDPE to something on the sides of the FJ right off of the bat I have no idea if there are any mounting points under there. I have yet to spend much time under the FJ, just a few oil changes so far. With attaching it to the front it almost looks like if we just make sure we drill enough holes and bolt it to something it will hold up just fine. Maybe just apply enough heat and use a floor jack to get it where we want it then bole it up. Maybe this is a point Just4fun can keep an eye on this weekend for us.

Re: Utah HD Polyethyline Skids get together

I may be interested as well. I was thinking I should have something before Spring Fling but I just don't have the time. I will definitely want to check out these skids at Spring Fling.

For future reference I might be able to offer a garage for projects in AF as well.

Re: Utah HD Polyethyline Skids get together

I will try my install Sat morning. I have to install my All-Pro shock guards, links, and link guards. Plus design a set of skids for my bros 07 Tacoma and my FJ. We did all of the scuba mods last night. OUCH!!! I will post pics tomorrow or Sunday.
By the way I was able to get 2 Black sheets of UHMW for $250 each, 4x10. The fab guy at the plastic place wouldn't stop telling me how tuff this stuff is. He also gave us a bunch of installation pointers and said that this is the perfect stuff for this kind of application. I will see if his advice works and let everyone know. IF this works out, my bro and I want to start making these skids and selling them. We'll see.

Hey man, would you PM me your phone number or address? If I get some spare time I would love to come over and take a look at these and maybe even give you a hand if I can get away today.
