Possible move to Denver area

May get relocated to Denver. Just trying to get some info on nice places to live. We've been looking on the net at Castle Rock, Castle Pines and Parker. I heard there is light rail near Castle Rock that goes into Denver. We're open to hearing any ideas, opinions and suggestions about traffic, housing, schools, how much snow etc.

We live in the Danver area. The area you are looking at is nice, however if you are going to be working in Denver the commute from there is not the best.

I feel that the schools where we are at are some of the better right now. We just recently moved to this area and our kids are doing great.

RockyMtnHigh lives within miles from us, also and we think getting to and from anywhere around this area is fairly easy access. We are very close to Denver Intl. Airport.

I agree with you Athena, it does depend what you are looking for.

As far as light rail, if you have to go to "Downtown"(16th st mall area) it's a godsend if you live near one of the lines, if you are not going directly downtown, or on one of it's stops (wayword stops are residential really, not many business sections), then its pretty useless. The two south legs to I-25 to Lincoln, or Santa Fe to Mineral. info:

Other than rush hour around here, it's a great place.

Re: Possible move to Denver area

FJCruzer123 lives right smack in the middle of downtown in a pretty sweet little victorian style home, you can't get much closer than him.

Like Tony was telling you though the area we live in, commutes aren't really bad. My wife works in downtown and it takes her about 25 minutes down CO HWY 2 to get to work in the mornings.

If you work a Mid shift like me, the commute to work and home is awesome. Takes me about 30 minutes to get to Broomfield and the same back.

Snow, this is something you'll have to account for in your commute and can double your trip time to work. Parker is sweet, but I have a few co-workers that live out there and it takes them sometimes an hour and a half to get in.
I am originally from El Paso about the same climate as AZ, so the snow will be a shock for you. We moved here from Oklahoma where it's mostly ice and I like the snow much better, I can move it out of the way. Besides much of it melts away the next day.

Can't offer you to much info on schools (no kids).

Re: Possible move to Denver area

Thanks for your responses. I will have my wife read this thread. She also talked about Brighton, which I believe is closer to the airport. I'm sure if this relocation happens we will be making plenty of trips up there to look around. Thanks again for your help. Also, most of the houses we are looking at on the internet don't have fences around the back yard. Is this common? What if you have a dog? We have 3.

The fencing is very common. We are on a green belt, so only split-rail. I believe you can put up a fence just check with the H.O.A. there.

As for Brighton, it isn't a bad place to live, however on the downside the schools are very overcrowded at this point. This is due to the growth. Our nephew-in-law is a teacher at one of the high schools and complains about this all the time. Very good schools though.

Re: Possible move to Denver area

Brighton is nice, I have a Commerce City zip, but the fact is I live closer to Brighton than I do Comm City.
If you'd like I'd be more than happy to show you guys around if you come out to look. If you need a realtor let me know, the guy that we used, was used by several others that relocated here, I haven't heard any complaints about him.
We came out and looked at 35 houses in two days, I thought the realtor was going to pass out by the end of the second day, but he stuck with us the whole time.

Yeah, if you have a dog a fence is a good idea. Here's my boy and one of his friends...
