I could leave very early Saturday and meet you at Kanab or the site. I could probably be there by 9:00am. I have to work Friday. Don't change any plans for me. If I fit in Saturday I'll make it happen.
We plan to hit the Aztec Tunnels on Saturday and will be waiting for you at the spot we discussed. I hope you can make it, but if not, we understand.
See you guys there. Heading down late Friday night. Have to head home at 2:00pm or so so this will be a quick trip but so worth it before this site is gone forever. Now I just have to figure out where that spot is in town . Casey, MrTibbs and his partner in crime Smigette are camping down there this weekend too, so they will meet up with us as well.
Alert: Our babysitting has fallen through. I don't think we will be making it this weekend Uphill and MrTibbs. I'm so sorry but grandma is sick and not up to it. We will replan so we get there in the next couple of weekends. Casey, I'll give you a ring tonight to discuss if you want to go down another weekend very soon. So sorry Uphill, at least you don't have to go into town to fetch us. Again my apologies, I hate flaking
We went to the north end of Cottonwood Canyon (posted "no trespassing") and while we were there by the sign, a guy drove up in a truck - that's the route to the tunnels.
I guess they charge $15.00 a head to let you in. At first, I thought the sign read $1500 each. I spoke to the guy in the truck and he said, "It's private property (go away)"
So we never made it to the tunnels. I tried to get in from the South through the Piute Indian Reservation but the road was blocked at the state line. I guess that the private parties who own the north end of Cottonwood Cyn. are protecting their ricebowl - but that is NOT the way to win hearts over to your cause to save the tunnels. They seemed to be a strange and unfriendly group of people. Both VOLHOO and I are firmly middle aged. MRS VOLHOO was with us and we were driving nice rigs. It's no as if we intended to blow up their precious tunnels.
That notwithstanding, we did have a great time elsewhere in the Kanab area, particularly on the
Parunuweap Canyon Trail - AWESOME!
