KB, there are some break in tips you should follow, I think it might have been Jerry or Don that were talking about them. Driving for x miles. Stopping to cool, more miles, etc. I'll google around but I would want to do it right
K: found this, it should do it for you:
BREAK-IN PROCEDURE
A new ring and pinion installed with new bearings will initially generate higher than normal operating temperatures. It is advisable to use whichever of the following break in procedures matches your application.
With vehicle still on jack stands and rear-end filled with proper amount of lube, run in forward and reverse approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
Drive vehicle approximately 10 miles at normal operating speeds. Accelerate and decelerate several times conservatively, then let cool
Do not do any heavy towing for 300 miles.
**WARNING: OPERATOR MUST REMAIN IN DRIVER'S SEAT AND ALWAYS MAKE SURE FRONT WHEELS ARE BLOCKED AND JACK STANDS ARE SECURED BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS PROCEDURE - NEVER EXCEED 2000 RPM WITH WHEELS OFF GROUND. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE, PHYSICAL INJURY OR DEATH!

1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun is loaded, and the deer is in sight.
2. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires always has the right of way.
3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.
4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer.

Scott,
For bullets 1 & 2, its already been driven home from the dealership so the forward condition is met. I didn't ask them if they ran the car in reverse, but I can easily do that 2 nite or tommorow up and down the school parking lot.
Its also been driven ~30 miles since getting it...and as as it works out, in about 10 mile increments.
My only question would be about bullet item 3. If we did some off roading on rattlesnake tommorow would that be too rough on the 3rd member? There won't be any towing, but could be some groaning to get over a couple of the obstacles.
Are you going to come out tommorow? The forecast actually doesn't look bad...just a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms, but wouldn't matter much with a morning run.
Hi, are you guys meeting at Redwood and 73? It looks that way from the map. Where there then, there's a Chevron, McDonalds, Smiths?
Howdy Kalen, I'm sure you'll be fine, no towing. I'll see about tomorrow if my wife will watch our little girl and let me go play without her. I'd like to get out. Since we didn't go today I got roped into work .
Thats the place Scott. There is a gas station on the NorthWest corner, I think its a chevron...either way its a can't miss intersection as you head out west towards 5 mile.
Are you in SLC Scott? If so for future trips to 5 mile we could meet up sooner, but this meeting spot should work fine for tommorow.
AJ I'll see you out there for sure at 9 AM sharp and hope to see you too Scott. If time is an issue we can just tool around for a couple of hours and head back. My wife would appreciate it as well.
I won't be able to rescue AJ if he gets stuck anywhere
well according to the record I do belive it was you who got stuck last time
see ya out the in the morning, hope to see you to Scott

Hey Kalen, I think I know that trail you are talking about. Did that in the late Fall of 06, when my FJ was stock. If I'm not mistaken, the trail ends at an area called Mineral Flats. We were only able to run 1.5 to 2 miles of the trail before hitting a locked gate. Fireroad with a lot of pin-striping opportunities. Let me know when you want to try that later in the Summer - I would like to see if I can get farther.
This is Mark, we rode the Gold Bar Rim trail together. Enjoy your new diff.
